The following is a list of the trophies that were added in The Akaneia Build, a mod for Super Smash Bros. Melee.
| # | Name | Image | First Game / Moves | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 294 | Wolf O'Donnell | Star Fox 64 6/97 |
As leader of the mercenary gang Star Wolf, he took orders from Andross to hunt down the Star Fox team. His rivalry with Fox, and the McCloud family, may have begun long ago, but Wolf's true goals remain a mystery. Is his hatred of Fox enough to keep him fighting, or is he chasing a big prize from his ruthless boss? Only Wolf knows for sure. | |
| 295 | Wolf O'Donnell SMASH | B: Blaster Smash B: Wolf Flash |
From a distance, his combat style looks a lot like Fox's fast, frenzied fighting. But Wolf packs a bit more weight into each heavy strike. This is clear from his modified blaster: slow, but packed with power. Wolf Flash cuts at an angle, catching foes off-guard and tossing them off-balance with surprising force. Watch out for his wild moves! | |
| 296 | Wolf O'Donnell SMASH | Up & B: Fire Wolf Down & B: Reflector |
Wolf may be ruthless with his claws, but he doesn't leap blindly into danger—literally. Unlike Fox or Falco, he recovers with a fiery kick instead of flying. He has strong moves to drop opponents fast, but needs help to return to the stage. If you're Wolf's prey... you'd better run fast! | |
| 297 | Diddy Kong | Donkey Kong Country 11/94 |
Diddy Kong is without a doubt Donkey Kong's greatest friend. Once a hero-in-training, Diddy helped save Donkey Kong Island and later rescued Donkey Kong himself. He has a cool style all his own, featuring his trusty jetpack and Peanut Popgun. Of all Nintendo's heroes, no red cap is quite as iconic as Diddy Kong's. Small but spirited, he is a legend in his own right. | |
| 298 | Diddy Kong SMASH | B: Peanut Popgun Smash B: Monkey Flip |
Diddy's Monkey Flip allows him to maneuver around the stage with ease. Landing on an opponent will trap them in Diddy's grasp, or you may press the B button again for a flying kick! Charge Diddy's Peanut Popgun for more range, but if it charges for too long, it will blow up in his face! Timing is key with this powerful move. | |
| 299 | Diddy Kong SMASH | Up & B: Rocketbarrel Boost Down & B: Banana Peel |
Diddy may be light on his feet, but he knows others can be just as agile. Tossing a banana peel on the ground can give anyone the slip—and give Diddy the advantage. The Rocketbarrel Pack will help Diddy's ascent. Charge it all the way for a stronger launch and more distance, taking his recovery to new heights. | |
| 300 | Charizard | Pokémon Red & Blue 9/98 |
This literal fire starter is a massively popular Pokémon from the Kanto region. It grows giant wings after evolving from Charmeleon, but it's too heavy to sustain flight. A Pokémon trainer once raised a Charizard strong enough to face the Pokémon champion, only for the champion to have an equally strong Blastoise on his team. | |
| 301 | Charizard SMASH | B: Flamethrower Smash B: Dragon Rage |
Charizard is one of the heaviest fighters in the cast, but it keeps everyone in check with a versatile set of attacks: scratches, bites, tail whips, and powerful wings. Flamethrower, one of Charizard's most iconic attacks, can manage a crowd. Dragon Rage can break up an encounter too, but it has a little bit of startup time. | |
| 302 | Charizard SMASH | Up & B: Fly Down & B: Rock Smash |
Charizard can win a match with well-timed, heavy attacks. Don't worry too much about getting hit—Charizard can get a few extra jumps out of its wings to return to safety. Its Fly attack also engulfs its body in searing flames. Try using Rock Smash everywhere you go; the terrain will alter the attack's appearance! | |
| 303 | Lucas | Mother 3 Japan Only |
You may not recognize this sweet young boy from Tazmuli[sic] Village. Lucas is the star of his own adventure, where he discovers his psychic powers. He may not know Ness, but their journeys seem heavily linked. Is this shy boy brave enough to embark on such an outrageous quest, far away from home? | |
| 304 | Lucas SMASH | B: PK Freeze Smash B: PK Fire |
Lucas is physically similar to Ness, but his movement feels more like floating. Ness relies on more punches and kicks whereas Lucas draws on his strong psychic powers more often. Master PK Freeze to instantly trap enemies in a chunk of ice. If Lucas needs space, PK Fire will knock opponents away. | |
| 305 | Lucas SMASH | Up & B: PK Thunder Down & B: PSI Magnet |
Lucas's PK Thunder can pass through his opponents without vanishing, which makes it a great choice for recovery. If you are struggling to recover, try calling on help from the trusty Rope Snake. It can latch onto ledges and other fighters. Where did this Rope Snake come from anyway? | |
| 306 | Sonic the Hedgehog | Sonic the Hedgehog 6/91 |
Without a doubt, this blue hedgehog is the fastest thing alive. Sonic's not a big fan of waiting or injustice, and he will stop at nothing to keep Dr. Robotnik from hurting his friends or pursuing world domination. He's waited a long time to duke it out with Mario and co. Sonic is always up for a friendly rivalry! | |
| 307 | Sonic the Hedgehog SMASH | B: Homing Attack Smash B: Light Dash |
It goes without saying, but Sonic is the fastest character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. No one can outrun him, and they probably can't escape his Homing Attack either. If anyone is nearby, Sonic will lock on and dive in. For a different flavor of speedy attacks, Sonic can charge his Light Speed Dash for a stronger, more powerful hit. | |
| 308 | Sonic the Hedgehog SMASH | Up & B: Spring Jump Down & B: Spin Charge |
If he wasn't already fast enough, get ready for Sonic's Spin Charge. He can curl up into a ball and traverse the stage while racking up hits. Mash the B button to charge the dash, launching for greater speeds! His Spring Jump gives him a great vertical boost, so there's nowhere Sonic can't go in a battle. This hedgehog never slows down. | |
| 309 | Super Sonic | Sonic The Hedgehog 2 11/92 |
When Sonic and Tails first teamed up against Dr. Robotnik, the race was on to collect the Chaos Emeralds. If Sonic got them all, he could transform into Super Sonic. Somehow, he's even faster! This extreme power doesn't last long, so Sonic must use it wisely. It's not a power you see every day, making Super Sonic a rare but thrilling sight to behold! | |
| 310 | Tails | Sonic The Hedgehog 2 11/92 |
Miles Prower is a young fox easily recognized for his two tails—hence his nickname: Tails. He wanted to be just like Sonic when he was younger. They're both freedom fighters, but Tails also has a knack for mechanics. He pilots the Tornado, a handy biplane, and the Cyclone, a tough mechanical walker. | |
| 311 | Knuckles | Sonic The Hedgehog 3 4/94 |
As the guardian of Angel Island's Master Emerald, Knuckles the Echidna is tough as nails. Dr. Robotnik tricked Knuckles into becoming Sonic's rival, but he has since joined Sonic on many adventures. He's a martial artist, a treasure hunter, and a wall-basher, making him a great partner and loyal friend to Sonic and Tails. | |
| 312 | Amy | Sonic CD 11/93 |
Let's get one thing straight: Amy IS Sonic's girlfriend. She decided this since their first destined encounter, and it remains true to this day. Sonic may not always reciprocate those feelings, but surely he feels the same way. Don't tell her otherwise, or she will lay down her Piko Piko Hammer! | |
| 313 | Shadow the Hedgehog | Sonic Adventure 2 6/01 |
Don't be fooled. This isn't Sonic. Shadow was created to be the ultimate life form, with the unique ability to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds. He struggles to define his purpose, unsure of where he truly belongs. His likeness to Sonic once even unintentionally put Sonic in a tricky situation. | |
| 314 | Kirby Hat 6 | Super Smash Bros. Melee 12/01 |
Kirby has too many hats for just one hatrack. When copying Wolf, Kirby not only dons his signature eyepatch, but also his blaster. Diddy Kong's cap gives Kirby the iconic red Nintendo cap and the ability to use the poppin' Peanut Popgun. With a little Charizard cap on, Kirby can scorch foes with the powerful Flamethrower attack. | |
| 315 | Kirby Hat 7 | Super Smash Bros. Melee 12/01 |
These are impossibly rare finds for Kirby's assortment of hats! When Kirby copies Lucas, he gains the same messy hairstyle and can cast his own PK Freeze attack. Kirby may not be able to replicate Sonic's speed, but he gets access to the handy Homing Attack! Don't take these abilities for granted in battle. | |
| 316 | King Dedede | Kirby's Dream Land 8/92 |
This hardy king rules a legion of Waddle Dees and other critters across Dream Land. Despite his apparent royal status, he can't seem to have enough stuff. Don't worry: whether it's tasty food or the sacred Star Rod, he usually returns what he's taken. There's heavy debate in Dream Land about whether or not Dedede is a penguin... | |
| 317 | King Dedede SMASH | B: Inhale Smash B: Gordo Throw |
As Kirby's "arch frenemy", King Dedede imitates a few of Kirby's trademark moves. When Dedede inhales, he can't copy abilities, but he can spit out opponents much farther away. Farther than Kirby can! He also has an endless supply of Gordos he can lob in three different directions, making them the perfect soldiers to pierce incoming foes. | |
| 318 | King Dedede SMASH | Up & B: Super Dedede Jump Down & B: Hammer Flip |
Dedede is among the heaviest fighters in Super Smash Bros. Melee and can deal quite a wallop. With a fully charged Hammer Flip, one fiery swing can K.O. just about any opponent! His Super Dedede Jump gives him a great vertical boost with a punishing fall. Good luck taking on the King of Dream Land! | |
| 319 | Tails | Sonic the Hedgehog 2 11/92 |
Sonic's buddy is a savvy technician. Tails helped Sonic thwart Dr. Robotnik in a race for the Chaos Emeralds. If Sonic fell off a cliff or nearly landed in a pit of spikes, Tails flew him to safety. Tails used to be bullied because of his two tails, but since he and Sonic destroyed the Death Egg, Tails has proven that being different is okay! | |
| 320 | Tails SMASH | B: Tail Twister Smash B: Rapid Tails |
With the power of his two tails, Tails can pick up a tailwind to create a roaring mini-tornado. This Tail Twister isn't strong, but it's great for trapping opponents. His Rapid Tails attack is an elegant crowd-control tactic. With it, he can catch foes in a flurry of tail smacks before launching them away with one last strike! | |
| 321 | Tails SMASH | Up & B: Propeller Flight Down & B: Spin Charge |
His top speed may be second to Sonic's, but don't count him out! His two tails grant him extra momentum on the ground and let him master the skies, at least until he gets worn out. In awe of his buddy's speed, Tails performs his own Spin Charge with a shorter charge time. His quick maneuverability makes him a tough opponent to pin down. | |
| 322 | Gordo | Kirby's Dream Land 8/92 |
Kirby has defeated all sorts of opponents, but he's never been able to get rid of Gordo! This spiky ball can't do much, but it also can't be destroyed in the Kirby series. You're better off finding a way around it. Under King Dedede's command, they have no free will of their own. What could they be thinking? | |
| 323 | Marx | Kirby Super Star 9/96 |
Marx is adorable! At least he is in this form. Kirby meets this mysterious magician when Marx needs help resolving a feud between the sun and the moon. He seems trustworthy enough, especially with that innocent smile! With Marx's help, Kirby shouldn't have any problem protecting Popstar from danger... Right? | |
| 324 | Lololo & Lalala | Eggerland Mystery Japan Only |
If there's a block coming toward you, these two are likely pushing it on the other side. Lololo is the blue one, and Lalala is the pink one wearing a bow. They actually have history before Kirby's Dream Land. They both starred in their own NES game titled Adventures of Lolo. No comment on their relationship status. | |
| 325 | Nova | Kirby Super Star 9/96 |
Summoning the great comet Nova is no easy task. You'll need to collect seven elusive stars, hidden on many different planets, to get your wish granted. In Kirby Super Star, Kirby travels deep inside of Nova, revealing an interior of mysterious technology. There's no telling the origins of this intergalactic phenomenon. | |
| 326 | Tornado | Sonic the Hedgehog 2 11/92 |
The Tornado is Sonic's personal biplane, but his friend Tails is more likely to pilot it. Its ability to reach high altitudes helped Sonic and Tails infiltrate Wing Fortress Zone and the Death Egg. A secret tether at the back allows for some heavy lifting. Even with a boost engine, it can't quite match Sonic's super speed. | |
| 327 | E-102 Gamma | Sonic Adventure 9/99 |
The third in a series of battle robots made by Dr. Robotnik to serve aboard the Egg Carrier. Gamma is outfitted with rapid-fire lasers and various combat modes. His first mission? Find and catch a frog. Due to an error in his programming, Gamma has autonomy that other E-Series models do not have. | |
| 328 | Chao | Sonic Adventure 9/99 |
This precious little thing hatched from an egg. Chao come in a variety of styles. In Sonic Adventure, Chao can be hatched and raised like pets in the Chao Garden. As they grow, Chao will develop skills and learn emotions — for better or for worse. Please take care of your Chao and raise them responsibly! | |
| 329 | Shadow Mario | Super Mario Sunshine Future Release |
When trouble and graffiti ruin the serenity of the beautiful Isle Delfino, eyewitness accounts all but confirm that Mario is the culprit. If Mario is innocent, then who did the locals on the island see? Mario must find out who — or what — is using his likeness in vain, and where he can shop for oversized paintbrushes. | |
| 330 | Ghosts | Luigi's Mansion 11/01 |
For centuries, phantoms and specters have been the subject of scary stories and folklore. In Luigi's Mansion, they roam the halls of a creepy residence! These ghosts aren't much for hospitality, so Luigi has to clear them out. A flashlight is often the best way to throw off a ghost. With so many hiding about the mansion, is Luigi able to hunt down all of them? | |
| 331 | E. Gadd | Luigi's Mansion 11/01 |
Professor Elvin Gadd is an atypical scientist: his studies revolve around an obsession with ghosts. He once had the fortune of enlisting Luigi in his research inside a spooky mansion. E. Gadd's inventions were perfect for this expedition, particularly the Game Boy Horror, which Luigi used for navigation and late night calls with his new colleague. | |
| 332 | General Pepper | Star Fox 3/93 |
During his tenure as leader of the Cornerian Army, General Pepper gave the order to send Andross into exile on the barren planet Venom. He quickly became a wartime leader and hired Star Fox to aid his forces in a campaign to save the Lylat System. Prior to his current rank, Pepper served as a sergeant in a band of Corneria's finest militants. | |
| 333 | Runaway Bros. | EarthBound 6/95 |
The tall one is Lucky, and the short one is Nice. As musicians, they play in fancy theaters to help themselves out of debt they owe. These two look strikingly similar to some faces on a warning sign in Onett. Steer clear if you see their van! They sure won't. Do you think you can get backstage passes to their show? | |
| 334 | Red | Pokémon Red & Blue 9/98 |
This 11-year old boy's very own Pokémon legend unfolds in the region of Kanto. Red travels between cities, forests, and mountains to collect Pokémon and claim badges from Gym Leaders. Before leaving Pallet Town, Professor Oak gave him a Bulbasaur. Or was it a Squirtle? Maybe it was a Charmander. | |
| 335 | Gold | Pokémon Gold & Silver 10/00 |
Gold becomes a Pokémon trainer while running an errand for Professor Elm in the Johto region. He leaves New Bark Town to challenge the Gym Leaders in Johto and Kanto. On his adventure, can he complete the Pokédex and capture all 251 Pokémon? It might take him all day and night to achieve this massive feat. | |
| 336 | Kris | Pokémon Crystal 7/01 |
In Pokémon Crystal, you can choose to play as a male or female trainer. This time in the Johto region, Kris has a unique encounter with Suicune, one of the legendary beasts with a special connection to other mystical Pokémon. Kris and Suicune may share a special bond: a surefire mark of a great Pokémon trainer! | |
| 337 | Todd | Pokémon Snap 7/99 |
After receiving a personal invitation from Professor Oak, Todd contributes to Pokémon research using his photography expertise. Todd gets candid shots of Pokémon Island's inhabitants, revealing fascinating behaviors that Pokémon possess. Professor Oak reviews Todd's picks from each outing. If only he weren't so dismissive of pictures he didn't like. | |
| 338 | Volleyball Player | Volleyball 3/87 |
Teams from all around the world compete in a high-stakes volleyball league in the hopes of taking home the top cup. This captain leads her team in warm-ups before every game and decides every spike, lob, and diving save. In these matches, it's customary for the winning team to jump up and down on the court in unison. | |
| 339 | Hakkun | Sutte Hakkun Japan Only |
He looks like a glass drinking bird, doesn't he? Hakkun can sip up ink and objects like blocks. When Hakkun sips up a block, he takes its shape, which is odd for a fella made of glass. He can shoot blocks and ink back out from his beak to solve puzzles. Hakkun is a bit of celebrity on the Satellaview in Japan. | |
| 340 | Parabo & Satebo | Satellaview Japan Only |
One day, a satellite dish and a communications satellite suddenly came to life and quickly became inseparable. They both reside in a strange town that supposedly had its name stolen, helping visitors tune into special broadcasts. While they often serve as hosts, Satebo and Parabo occasionally play leading roles in exclusive games and stories. | |
| 341 | Game Boy | Nintendo Game Boy Hardware |
Ba-ling! The Game Boy is little, but it's a big deal. This dot-matrix display is where many famous characters made their debut. Its success led to more colors and special versions. Can you believe this had camera and printer accessories? Perhaps more well-known is the Game Link Cable to connect two Game Boy systems together. | |
| 342 | Kirby Hat 8 | Super Smash Bros. Melee 12/01 |
Where does Kirby keep finding all these hats?! Kirby is no stranger to the power of inhaling opponents, so copying Dedede is second nature. In a cute Tails hat, Kirby can create his own whirling twister and blow away the competition! He even gets his own set of tails, though Kirby can already fly without them... |
Trivia[edit]
- The new trophies were not originally viewable on the Collection screen, until support was added in v1.0.1.
- Much like the other Pokémon playable characters, Charizard's Classic Mode trophy pose references a previous pose, specifically that of its artwork from FireRed and LeafGreen. However, Melee predates the remakes, thereby contrasting The Akaneia Build's focus of using content released prior to Melee.
- Likewise, the trophy pose for Lololo & Lalala is based upon their artwork from Kirby Super Star Ultra, another game that postdates Melee.
- Red's trophy design is a hybrid between Red, as he appears in official artwork for Pokémon Red and Green, and Ash Ketchum, the Pokémon anime character loosely based on Red, as he appears in the earliest seasons of the Pokémon anime. This can be seen in his facial features, but is especially visible through his shoes, which do not match any particular design of Red but do exactly match Ash's design. This reflects how Misty and Professor Oak's trophies in Melee are based more upon their anime counterparts than their game designs.
- Red is wearing fingerless gloves, which are inconsistently seen in official artwork for the first generation of Pokémon but are not present on the majority of Red's modern artwork.
- The bicycle in Red's trophy matches how it appears in official artwork for Pokémon Red and Green, with the addition of "Miracle" text on its sides, referencing the Miracle Cycle bike shop.
- The color palette of Kris's trophy is based on concept art for Marina (her counterpart from the anime special The Legend of Thunder!, which aired in Japan the month after Melee's release), rather than her official artwork for Pokémon Crystal. Her pose also references a pose that Marina makes in The Legend of Thunder!'s eyecatches.
- Gold's pose is similarly based on concept art for Jimmy, his counterpart from the same special, though his design otherwise matches his official artwork for Pokémon Gold & Silver.
- Amy's trophy was revised between v0.9 and v1.0 to match the pose seen in her official artwork from Sonic Adventure.
- Tails' non-fighter trophy and Knuckles' trophy both use modified models from Sonic Adventure 2 (also used for The Akaneia Build's version of Green Hill Zone). Prior to 1.0, Amy's trophy also used her model from Sonic Adventure 2, but it is now an original model.
- Other trophies besides the previously mentioned ones that are based on preexisting official artwork include:
- Diddy Kong's Classic Mode trophy is based on his artwork from Donkey Kong 64.
- Sonic's and Tails's Classic Mode trophies are both based on their 3D artwork from Sonic Adventure.
- King Dedede's Classic Mode trophy is based on his artwork from Kirby Super Star.
- Marx's trophy is based on his base form and true form artwork from Kirby Super Star.
- The Chao's trophy is based on its 2D artwork from Sonic Adventure.
- Shadow Mario's trophy is based on a wallpaper for Super Mario Sunshine.
- The Ghosts' trophy is based on their trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
- E. Gadd's trophy is based on his artwork from Luigi's Mansion.
- The Runaway Bros.' trophy is based on their paper clay models from EarthBound, much like other EarthBound trophies.
- The Volleyball Player's trophy is based on her official artwork from Volleyball.
- Hakkun's trophy is based on his official artwork from Sutte Hakkun.
- Parabo & Satebo's trophy is based on promotional artwork for the Satellaview.
- The Game Boy is positioned at the same angle at which it appears on its 1993 standalone packaging.
- Lucas's Classic Mode trophy misspells his hometown of Tazmily Village as "Tazmuli Village". This is likely in reference to the NTSC trophy for Lucas in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which misspells it as "Tazumili".
- The Sonic the Hedgehog trophies still refer to Dr. Eggman as "Dr. Robotnik", his localized English name from the early Genesis titles, despite the fact that Sonic Adventure, which released two years before Melee, officially established Dr. Eggman as his English name. However, the English localization of Sonic Adventure is unique in establishing that Eggman is a nickname that Sonic and his friends use, while others (including the residents of Station Square, along with he himself and his creation E-102) refer to him as Robotnik. The trophies are most likely referencing this convention, which was dropped in Sonic Adventure 2 and all subsequent games.
- In v0.9, Sonic's Adventure Mode trophy described his neutral special and up special, while his All-Star trophy described his down special and side special, contrasting the formula of describing neutral and side specials in the former and up and down specials in the latter. This was changed in the following update.
- In v0.9, Tails's trophy erroneously stated that he built the Tornado. In actuality, the Tornado is owned by Sonic himself (with him freely letting Tails use it), and it is unknown who built it—Tails instead built its successors, such as the Tornado 2 from Sonic Adventure and the Tornado-1 from Sonic Unleashed. This was fixed in the following update.
- In v1.0, Gamma's trophy claimed that he is the second E-Series robot, when he is actually the third. Rather than starting at E-101 Beta, the E-Series actually begins with E-100 ZERO (a.k.a. "Alpha"). This was fixed in the following update.
- Interestingly, a similar mistake is made in E-123 Omega's American English trophy description in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, which claims that he is the twenty-third E-Series robot rather than the twenty-fourth.
- In v1.0, the Chao trophy was originally missing its tail. This was fixed in the following update.
- Lololo & Lalala's trophy states that Eggerland Mystery was only released in Japan; it also released in Europe. This aligns with the NTSC version of Melee largely ignoring European releases for games that were not released in North America.
- General Pepper's trophy description references the Nintendo Power comic based on Star Fox, which in turn had referenced the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, depicting General Pepper as a sergeant with three other crewmates in an image parodying the album's cover.
- Unusually, both Sonic's and Tails's fighter trophies do not capitalize the letter "t" in their game debut ("Sonic the Hedgehog"), while non-fighter Sonic trophies, including Tails's, capitalize it ("Sonic The Hedgehog").
