Elegant's playstyle remains mostly the same from SSB4 to SSBU, and is highly characterized through his potent punish game, his quick movement, and unpredictable choices in neutral. He has a mastery of Luigi's combos and recovery, making use of his powerful grab and combo game, and offsetting the character's weak recovery by recovering in different and unusual ways. Due to the amount of combo starters Luigi has, Elegant uses these to frame trap and DI mixup his opponents, doing massive amounts of damage and potentially pulling a zero-to-death combo.
Elegant was also well known for his ability to button mash efficiently as in SSB4, Luigi's down special, Luigi Cyclone, could spike opponents only if the player could mash enough times to have Luigi move up to not trigger the final hit. As Elegant was proficient as this technique, his edge guarding ability was on point, allowing him to gimp players at low percent and make comebacks off of a single neutral win. However, this effect was removed from Ultimate, effectively worsening the power of the move. Although the nerf removed Luigi Cylone's ability to gimp, Elegant uses Luigi's newly added tether to edge guard, and makes use of Luigi Cylone's newly added trait of having invincibility within the first frames of the move. He uses this to combo break his opponents, kill off the top of the stage, brute force his way through an opponent, or to cover the ledge.
