Light is a professional Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fox main from Connecticut, considered the best Fox player in the world and the current best player in the United States. He is currently ranked 1st on both the Connecticut Ultimate Power Rankings and New England Ultimate Power Rankings as well as 3rd on the OrionRank Mid-Year 2022 and 4th on the PGRU v3 NA.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Light was also a Fox player, and is also considered one of the best Fox players in the world along with Larry Lurr. He has taken sets from Tweek, Dabuz, Nairo, Cosmos, Mr.R, VoiD, komorikiri, and Larry Lurr. Light is currently ranked 1st on the Connecticut Smash 4 Power Rankings, 2nd on the NER 2017-2018, and 43rd on the Panda Global Rankings 100.

Light is also considered one of the best, if not the best doubles player in the world. He usually teams with Marss and the pair is considered the best Ultimate doubles team in the world, and have taken 1st place at majors such as Pound 2019, Low Tier City 7, Super Smash Con 2019, GENESIS 7, and Frostbite 2020.

On February 8th, 2018, Light was signed by Most Valuable Gaming.[1] Months later, on September 26th, 2018, MVG released Light from his contract for unknown reasons.[2] On February 21st, 2019, Light was signed by Rogue.[3] Light left Rogue on March 31st, 2020. [4] He was signed by Moist Esports on September 15th, 2021, an eSports team created by Cr1TiKaL.[5]

Playstyle

Light is known for his aggressive and quick playstyle. His knowledge and ability to tech chase and call out his opponent's options are effective in Fox's neutral. He also pays attention to his opponent’s defensive options and when he guesses right, he would pull off some of Fox's high damaging combo moves and strings in order to get his opponent to the specific kill confirm of neutral air into up smash if he reads a missed tech or vice versa. If the opponent is past that KO confirm percent range, he looks for other opportunities to frame trap them by keeping them in the corner, walling them out with back air, or go for jump reads with up air or the former. Unlike other Fox players, if Light knows he can edgeguard bad recoveries, he would run off Nair or shine spike them for early gimps. Light is also known to mix up Fox's recovery well, despite Fox having an easily exploitable linear recovery. For example, he uses Fox's reflector to stall his momentum in the air and uses Fire Fox in unique angles so he can potentially get trades with his opponent trying to edgeguard him.

Tournament history

2019: A Top 10 Player

Already off to a strong start with a 3rd place at Glitch 6 with a notable MkLeo win, Light picked up the momentum in the first PGRU season. He started strong with two 5th place finishes at GENESIS 6 and Frostbite 2019, as well as qualifying for Smash Ultimate Summit by winning Ultimate Nimbus. Alongside two respectable regionals in Collision 2019 and Suplex City Smash and a powerful 3rd place finish at a major in 2GG: Prime Saga, Light was having a very hot start to the first PGRU season.

However, Light would then fall short slightly. He missed top 8 at a major for the first time at Pound 2019, where he lost to Daybreak 2-1 and got reverse 3-0'd by Dark Wizzy to finish at 17th place. Alongside missing top 8 at MomoCon 2019, Smash 'N' Splash 5, and CEO 2019, Light had a very strong start and a somewhat weak finish to the season. In spite of all this, Light was ranked 10th at on the first PGRU season, due to his strong collection of major results and wins over players such as MkLeo, Marss, Samsora, Nairo, Dabuz, Cosmos, and Ally.

For the second season of the PGRU, Light did not start the best way. Light experienced a very disappointing 17th place at Low Tier City 7, losing to Meme, and BestNess (now Scend). Light bounced back from this and got 7th at both EVO 2019 and Super Smash Con 2019, the season's two biggest tournaments. Unfortunately, Light placed a lackluster 25th place at Shine 2019, his worst placement at a major ever. Once again, Light bounced back at the next 3 majors: 2GG: Switchfest 2019, Glitch 7 - Missingno, and Mainstage, where he placed 5th, 2nd, and 4th, respectively. After only getting 13th at The Big House 9, Light finished his last two majors for the season on a strong note: a 5th at DreamHack Atlanta 2019 and a 4th at 2GG: Kongo Saga.

Even though Light faced some questionable lows in the season such as Low Tier City 7 and Shine 2019, his strong range of results at majors resulted in him being ranked 10th again.

2020: A Slight Rough Patch, A Slow Return to Form

Coming from a defining 2019, Light started the new year and the third PGRU season with high hopes, as expectations for how he would perform were high.

Light started the season with the season's first S tier: Let's Make Big Moves, beating MuteAce and WaDi before losing to Marss in a very competitive set for 9th place. Light then fell short at Glitch 8 - Missingno; there, he got upset by both Dill and Mr E while taking no games against either player, resulting in a very di/sappointing 13th place finish (although he beat his bracket demon, Maister).

Eventually, Light bounced back and responded to a lacking Glitch 8 with a strong GENESIS 7. After Light got upset by Elegant on his first round of winners top 64, Light made a solid run to top 8 losers, beating a handful of players including Tweek, Cosmos, and Salem. However, his run was stopped by Dark Wizzy after losing a very close game 5 set, placing 7th. At the major of the next month, Frostbite 2020, Light had a strong run even though he did not top 8, finishing at 9th. After losing to Nairo in winners top 32, Light eliminated Shuton and VoiD before falling to Toast. Although his status of a top 10 player was questionable at the time, Light nonetheless proved that he can still keep up with the cream of the crop before offline tournaments were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trivia

  • Light has the iconic habit to roll up his sleeves during sets, especially when he is in difficult situations and very close sets.
  • Light is a fan of Toradora! and particularly Taiga Aisaka, the female protagonist of the show. Until recently, he often used "Palm Tiger" as his in-game tag, which is a derivation of Taiga's surname in the series ("Palmtop Tiger").
  • Light has been the subject of a few memes and running gags in the Smash community:
    • During a part of Smash 4 and Ultimate's competitive lifespan, Light's ability to clutch off sets and being victorious in very unfavorable situations has led the community saying Light has a plot armor and is therefore the protagonist of the competitive scene.[6]
    • Many players have called Light a "rap god" because his name, Paris Ramirez, fit perfectly into a rap beat.
    • A quote of Light stating that Wi-Fi is a sham[7] spawned several video edits, particularly those with Fox's victory screen.[8]
  • Light is known for frequently taunting whenever he takes a stock.
  • Light is one of several players to 3-0 MkLeo, alongside Tweek, Glutonny, Marss, Kurama and Onin.
