  • The choice of fighters and their alternate costumes is a reference to each fighter representing the four Ghosts, which consists of Blinky (representedby Kirby), Pinky (represented by Jigglypuff), Inky (represented by Squirtle), and Clyde (represented by Pac-Man).
  • The stage and music choice, and the choice of the Ghosts as an Assist Trophy enemy is a reference to the Ghosts' appearances in the PAC-MAN games.

  • The choice of multiple Mr. Game & Watch's as fighters, and the Mr. Game and Watch puppet fighters' blue alternate costume is a reference to the Ghosts from PAC-MAN turning blue when Pac-Man touches a Power Pellet. Furthermore, it is also a reference to both Mr. Game & Watch and TURN-TO-BLUE being sprites from their respective games released in the 1980's.
  • The stage choice is a reference to the maze-like structure of the stage similar to the stages in PAC-MAN.
  • The music choice is a reference to TURN-TO-BLUE's debut in PAC-MAN.
  • The timed battle condition is a reference to the Ghosts turning blue for a limited amount of time, while the second battle condition is a reference to the Ghosts trying to aboive Pac-Man when turned blue.

  • The choice of multiple Pac-Man's as fighters, and the Pac-Man puppet fighter's favor for the Bonus Fruit attack, and the timed battle condition is a reference to the fruit that appears briefly in PAC-MAN.
  • The stage and music choice is a reference to the Bonus Fruit's debut in PAC-MAN. Furthermore, the stage choice is not only a reference to the Spirit Battle placement in the Mushroom Platforms within the World of Light Adventure Mode where it is located, but also a reference to the Treasure Chest it guards, as defeating the Bonus Fruit must be defeated in order to gain access to the Treasure Chest containing a bonus of 500 SP.

Trivia

  • Pac-Man, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, EarthBound and Ice Climber are the only series represented by a fighter to use in-game sprite art for their spirits.
