Rage controversy[edit]
Epic_Gabriel has left several scathing comments on his opponent on Twitter or through Start.gg after being defeated in online tournaments, causing members of the scene to call him out for being unsportsmanlike. One major incident happened after $2000 Legion Smash Ultimate Cup, where, after losing to Kiyarash, he told him that he will never be good, among other over-the-top angry comments.[4] When Kiyarash posted these comments on Twitter, Epic_Gabriel was met with significant backlash from the Smash community to the point where he disabled his Twitter account. He would later reactivate his account and post a TwitLonger apologizing to Kiyarash for his statements, saying that he would try harder to control his anger.[5]
Homophobic and transphobic statements[edit]
On October 15th, 2021, a Twitter user posted screenshots of Epic_Gabriel saying homophobic and transphobic slurs through Discord messages.[6] Others also posted similar comments Epic_Gabriel made, with a few dating back from only a year prior.[7] Following these screenshots, Epic_Gabriel made his own statements apologizing for using the slurs, explaining that they were embedded in his vocabulary.[8] Following bans from several tournaments for an indefinite period,[9] Epic_Gabriel released another statement where he directly apologized to the people who were involved in the situation as well as promising that he would change.[10] He was unbanned on March 8th, 2022.[11]
