The Parasite Queen, the first boss of Metroid Prime, appears in the background in Frigate Orpheon. She has no effect on the gameplay, however, though she is suggested to be the cause of the stage flip effect.

Character Description

The Parasite Queen is the first boss to be fought in Metroid Prime, and the first Metroid boss to be fought in 3-D. At the beginning of the game, Samus Aran responds to a distress signal from the Frigate Orpheon. Space Pirates had been experimenting on the local parasite lifeforms of the world Tallon IV with the lethal mutagen, phazon. They created up to four Parasite Queens. The first was found dead, killed in a battle against Space Pirates after it broke free. The second was found decaying in its tank, its celluar structure destabilising due to phazon overdose. The third was in stasis, with low life signs.

When Samus reaches the reactor, the Parasite Queen appears. It is protected by a shield (as seen in the Frigate Orpheon stage) and fires blasts of energy from it's mouth. Samus had to fire into it's mouth through a small gap in the shield. Upon defeat, it falls into the reactor, leaving Samus 6 minutes to escape Orpheon before it explodes. On her way out, the third Queen breaks loose, but since it's shell hasn't hardened fully, the Space Pirates dispatch it quickly.

In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, two Parasite Queen corpses, in a similar state to the dead queen in it's chamber on the Orpheon, can be seen in an elevator in West Skytown.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In the stage Frigate Orpheon, a Parasite Queen from Metroid Prime thrashes around in a tank. It does nothing to the battle itself. It also appears as a trophy.

Trophy Description

Space Pirates performed many experiments using Phazon as a means to artificially enhance physical strength. The Parasite Queen is the result of these experiments on one small life-form. This Parasite Queen lived in a nuclear power reactor and fired destructive beams at Samus from her mouth. The barrier that spun around the queen reflected her and Samus's attacks.
