Flat Zone is unlocked when the player unlocks Mr. Game & Watch. Flatzone is also Mr. Game & Watch's home stage, and you face 25 of his characters at the end of All-Star mode on this stage. His Target Test also takes place here. Also, two event modes in Super Smash Bros. Melee also appear fighting on this stage.

Stage layout

Flat Zone is a small stage. In the middle of the stage there are numerous lines that characters can jump on. The lines will fade out and reappear while the characters battle. On the far right of the screen, characters can stand on the roof of the house. Characters will appears as 2-D images on the screen, and make a beeping noise whenever they walk. When the game is paused, rather than zoom in on one character, the camera zooms out to show the entire Game and Watch device being played on. The layout is heavily based on the Game & Watch game Helmet.

Obstacles

  • Once in a while, the attendant from Oil Panic will come from the house and spill oil on the ground. If a character walks in the oil, they will have a hard time battling. Only the Ice Climbers have good traction on the oil. The position of the spilled oil is sometimes determined by where the attendant might have been attacked.
  • Occasionally, tools from Helmet will rain down from the top of the screen, and the character from Manhole will disappear until the tools stop falling. If a character comes in contact with a tool, they will take some damage, sometimes defeating the character even at low percentages. The character can also hit the tools with Smash attacks. This will not hurt them and sometimes if hit hard enough, the tools will be sent flying across the stage. Use this to your character's advantage to send a tool flying into your opponent.

Tournament legality

Flat Zone is banned in both single and double tournaments due to the fact that all characters can be KO'd extremely easily.
