For the heck of it, I decided to make a couple of rosters for SSB4. I would consider neither one to be complete. Hover over the symbol by each name to learn my thoughts on each character or his/her game(s).


Main Roster[edit]

Mario Pretty much main Nintendo character. Wario A character who spawned quite an interesting Mario side-series. Actually, a couple of them. Link This one will naturally be the Skyward Sword incarnate. That's pretty much it. Pikachu Wow, I really have nothing to say about the regulars. Marth Fire Emblem go-to guy for Smash. Samus Her previous Final Smash has been confirmed, but I'm still treating her and ZSS as separate. Fox Not much of a Star Fox player. Kirby Kirby 64 seems very creative. Ness Smash regular. Should probably watch Chuggaa's LP of EarthBound, or play it myself when it comes to VC. Mr. Game & Watch I'm not seeing any purely Game & Watch newcomer to add. Mickey might be interesting, but even then, why have the Game & Watch version as opposed to the Kingdom Hearts and Epic Mickey versions?
Luigi Pretty much main Nintendo character, again. Yoshi Love and hate his moves at the same time. Zelda/Sheik I have absolutely no idea which incarnate, probably still Twilight Princess. Jigglypuff Ugh, original twelve. I actually would love to see Jigglypuff removed. Ike Or Roy. I really have no opinion. Zero Suit Samus Meh. Falco Previously cut from this roster, but he's a deserving veteran. I still hate the ICs apparently. King Dedede A character I enjoy playing as. Yeah, I don't play Kirby to say anything else. Lucas I like playing him in Brawl. Getting a little better. R.O.B. Robot.
Peach I sometimes use her in Brawl just for the heck of it. Kamek Detestable villain, but could be interesting in Smash. Ganondorf Originally wanted both forms of Ganon playable on my old roster. Mewtwo With Gen VI and Mega-evolutions on the horizon, Mewtwo seems very likely to make a comeback. Lucina While Chrom is the most likely newcomer, I have a habit to keep up about not picking the most likely one. Adam Malkovich Why did I ever include this guy on my roster? Wolf I like playing as him sometimes. Meta Knight Not a Meta Knight expert, so I don't know how he could be altered. Masked Man He may be a unique fighter to represent the Mother series. Wii Fit Trainer I didn't predict this fighter either, but I guess this means the Wii has at least one original universe.
Bowser Nothing really to say. Donkey Kong Game Boy Donkey Kong was likely my first video game. Toon Link Wind Waker has very interesting graphics, and I will probably get the remake. Lucario I kind of prefer Lucario over Mewtwo. Olimar I like to call Olimar "the plant guy" and make jokes about going green. Pit Need to get a 3DS and play Uprising. Not sure about the original. Krystal She seems like the logical choice for the Star Fox universe's next newcomer. Magolor Villain of the most recent Kirby game. Sonic I may eventually play a Sonic game. Snake Perhaps the only rated-M character I would support in Smash.
Bowser Jr. Probably best character to be a Mario newcomer. Diddy Kong Diddy Kong Racing was probably the best game I had for the N64, or at least second to Banjo-Kazooie. Wolf Link Twilight Princess probably should still be represented. Delphox Braixen is pictured, but it will more likely be Delpox. Regardless, this line is probably the most likely to get a representative from the Gen. 6 starters. Alph or Brittany or Charlie It makes sense to use one of the latest installment's protagonists, though Louie and the President are also good choices. Palutena Probably the closest thing to an Ys Origin character being playable. Magnus is still more likely though. Captain Falcon Sequel needed. Villager Added to my main roster for it's final revision. Mega Man Capcom representative. While I would have preferred Amaterasu, Mega Man is more iconic. Banjo/Kazooie Still one of my most-wanted character for SSB4, despite being very impossible. From likely the best game of my N64 phase.

No random-space, though Banjo and Kazooie are where it was on my roster.

Removed Brawlers[edit]

I was not afraid of cutting for this roster. I previously cut Lucario and Falco, but both have been put back.

  • Ice Climbers IceClimbersSymbol.svg - Perhaps undeserving, since with them go their entire universe, but I'm not a big fan of the A.I. controlling half the character. They are still likely to return though.
  • Pokémon Trainer PokemonSymbol.svg - The three-in-one thing is a bit too gimmicky and should be improved upon if he does return.

Confirmed characters I've missed[edit]

This includes those mentioned in my old roster, cut Melee veterans, and the Brawl veterans I've removed from my main roster (because why not be repetitive?). Will not include Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, though I did overlook them prior to E3 2013.

  • Rosalina MarioSymbol.svg - Since her playable role in Super Mario Bros. 2 U, I've put away my aversion towards her being playable in Smash 4. She probably would have been included in my roster if I had updated it since the 2 U announcement (I should have updated my roster prediction for OT's game at least, since I kind of did call this).
  • Little Mac PunchOutSymbol.svg - Kind of expected. I specifically avoided adding Brawl Assist Trophies though.
  • Charizard PokemonSymbol.svg - Without the annoying three-in-one gimmick, so why not?
  • Greninja PokemonSymbol.svg - It seems I picked the wrong Gen 6 starter.
  • Mii Fighters Symbol of the Smash Bros. series. - Miis were a request I did not take seriously. Though, the fighters do seem to have potential.
  • Pac-Man PacManSymbol.svg - The character is definitely a video game all-star and does deserve a spot on the roster, though I will never understand the internet's fascination with the specific matchup of Mario/Sonic/Mega Man/Pac-Man, since only the first three are known for 2D-platforming. Though, perhaps this is not the point.
  • Robin FireEmblemSymbol.svg - A character I overlooked in my search for the best Fire Emblem newcomer, but I'm glad he/she is in regardless.
  • Dr. Mario MarioSymbol.svg - Now that Lucas has been confirmed, I can't really hate him anymore.
  • Dark Pit KidIcarusSymbol.svg - I never understood the hate for this guy.
  • Duck Hunt DuckHuntSymbol.svg - Banjo-Kazooie in Smash, guys!

Old Roster[edit]

My old roster (mainly for fun; updated from my contest roster to include at least one newcomer for each universe, excluding Game & Watch and Robot which I know nothing about):

I believe this roster to be outdated, mainly because, as I said above, I foolishly try to include all the characters I do.

Cut from main roster. Zero Suit Samus Meh. Lucas I like playing him in Brawl. Getting a little better. Naked Snake Cut from main roster. While he'd be nice, I already have too many third-parties.

Masked Man He may be a unique fighter to represent the Mother series. Sonic I may eventually play a Sonic game.

Marth Fire Emblem go-to guy for Smash. Ike I never play as Ike, but I don't feel like removing him. Pokémon Trainer Red Eh. Probably best to separate his Pokémon. Topi Clearly I don't play Ice Climber, but I can imagine this character being fun nonetheless. Cut from main roster. Adeleine Replaced with Dark Matter in main roster. Krystal She seems like the logical choice for the Star Fox universe's next newcomer. The President Replaced with a Hocotatian from Pikmin 3 in main roster. Lloyd Irving Cut in main roster. Too many third-parties. Banjo/Kazooie Still one of my most-wanted character for SSB4, despite being very impossible. From likely the best game of my N64 phase. Knuckles Cut, but still better than Shadow.

Black Knight I think this guy has an official name, but I don't play Fire Emblem and I'm too lazy to check. Cut from main roster. Pokémon Trainer Hilda With Snivy, Pignite, and Samurott. Cut from main roster. Tin Star Never played Tin Star, but Brawl pulled the almost-forgotten Pit out of the rubble and practically gave him another sequel. Let's see that happen for this guy. Cut from main roster, sadly. Lip Cut for space on my main roster. Isa Jo Cut from main roster. Protagonist of the most recent game. Mach Rider While F-Zero is counted as Mach Rider's spiritual successor, it still might be nice to see a revamp for the new generation. Cut from main roster. Zael Even though he's not purely third-party, I still cut him for the main roster. Amaterasu If only because of the recent popularity the series has gotten. (Translation: something something Chuggaaconroy.) RANDOM No explanation needed.
