Crowd

The crowd is a group of unseen people that can be heard during matches in all games of the Super Smash Bros. series. The crowd can occasionally be be heard cheering by shouting the name of a character that is used by a human player if they are at high damage and does something significant, such as KOing multiple opponents at once. Every character has a unique cheer chant in each of the Smash Bros. games. Sometimes, if a player can just make it back to the stage, after being knocked far away from the stage, the crowd will gasp. In Brawl, the crowd will also gasp whenever a smash ball or legendary pokemon appears (with the exception of Lati@s).

In Melee, having the crowd cheer for the player will earn them the "Crowd favorite" bonus, which is worth 2500 points. A player causing the crowd to gasp frequently during the match (at least 3 times every minute) will earn the player the "Master of suspense" bonus, also worth 2500 points. This is the only time in any of the Smash Bros. games the crowd can affect the match.
