I started with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and really wanted to know as much about the game as possible, so I came over here. Since then, I've tried out every single Smash Bros. game, even Brawl-. I've mostly played Captain Falcon throughout every game, but I now primarily play Smash 4, where I main Cloud and keep a bunch of secondaries for fun. You may find me lurking in the Smash on Tap Smash 4 brackets at Even Matchup Gaming's Challonge page. If you see GoldML anywhere on Twitch, that's me (but I don't stream).

I've had varying thoughts of each of the main games and how they all play differently. I suppose that, starting from Brawl and Smash 64 (to a lesser extent), I was more interested in the slower pace that both games had because the approach was more methodical than execution-heavy. It certainly had me against Melee for a while, but I eased into it after seeing a couple of matches and wanting to get better with my own setup at home. After spending nearly two years of playing Melee, however, I find myself averse to destroying my hands practicing a nearly non-viable character (Captain Falcon), and trying to do that for better characters would simply eat up too much of my time. I've also had this torn relationship with Melee because the more I played it, the more that it felt so rushed compared to any other main Smash game and many, many things in the game suggest that (Pokémon Stadium's weird pass through glitches, Luigi's ceiling glitch, Peach's down smash not being a constant hitbox, some of Mr. Game & Watch's aerials not being L-cancellable, Fox and Falco's Reflector being jump cancellable at any time except after reflecting projectiles, even the little things like Captain Falcon's up aerial not having a late hitbox, among many other things). Thus, I feel that Smash 4 is the game for me, as it is a more complete game, is objectively better (with, in my opinion, a much better ratio of viable characters to the size of the roster, as well as a lower execution requirement, at least for starting out) and is far more accessible than Melee (lugging around CRTs, playing with a disc and console that are no longer in production; controllers die constantly, too). I have nothing against Melee players, but Melees flaws are undeniably worse than those of Smash 4.

I recently made my own tier list for Smash 4. You don't have to take it for word, it is mostly my opinion, as well as a popularity contest. (sorry Mii Fighters).

Hi there. My smasher tag is Gold, my wiki name is Smashgold347238, and I edit a lot of pages where I feel it is needed (which may or may not actually be needed, so I apologize in advance).

Stance on Smash games to play (rant)

I've also had this torn relationship with Melee because the more I played it, the more that it felt so rushed compared to any other main Smash game and many, many things in the game suggest that (several cloned characters, some of which are considered non-viable, as well as many quirks, such as Pokémon Stadium's weird pass through glitches, Luigi's ceiling glitch, Peach's down smash not being a constant hitbox, some of Mr. I have nothing against Melee players-- in fact, I love watching its top players-- but Melee's flaws are undeniably worse than those of Smash 4.

My Smash 4 tier list

I recently made my own tier list for Smash 4. You don't have to take it for word, it is mostly my opinion, as well as a popularity contest. (sorry Mii Fighters). Very subject to change based on what matches I see. Here's how I categorized them.

 • S+: Possesses very few flaws, and is extremely consistent.
 • S: Not as consistent as S+, but can easily keep up in the right hands.
 • A+: Might need a few reads to get a win, but still has it easier than most characters.
 • A: Has a lot of potential, but either has some flaws that S+/S characters can exploit, or is just very average and doesn't excel in any area.
 • B+: Requires a bit of dedication due to some less favourable traits, but is still reasonably rewarding.
 • B: Has a few quirks that could make them difficult to pick up, but is somewhat dangerous in the right hands.
 • C: Possesses more flaws than advantages, and needs prediction or clever use of gimmicks to win.
 • D: Inherently flawed; all other characters are better in every way. Cannot keep up with the metagame without extensive dedication (or insanity).
