Yoshi's Eggs are items from the Mario and Yoshi universes. Laid by Yoshis, they typically feature green spots. A Yoshi's Egg also serves as the series symbol for the Yoshi universe and is used by Yoshi in various moves throughout the Super Smash Bros. series.

In Super Smash Bros.[edit]

As an object[edit]

Two of Yoshi's special moves involve him using eggs. For Egg Throw, Yoshi aims and throws an egg at the targeted opponent. In Egg Lay, Yoshi swallows an opponent and outputs them as an egg. Uniquely, Yoshi's shield encases him in an egg too. Yoshi also hatches from an egg during his on-screen appearance.

The Yoshi eggs have green spots, regardless of whether the player is the standard green Yoshi or one of the alternate costumes.

Eggs are briefly seen in the opening movie, where a group of Yoshis are incubating them in a nest in front of the Super Happy Tree.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

As an object[edit]

Yoshi still uses eggs during two of his special moves, Egg Lay and Egg Throw, as well as his shielding. With on-screen appearances removed, Yoshi no longer appears from a Yoshi's Egg at the start of a match.

As a special item[edit]

As a special item, Yoshi's Egg appears only in Event 13: Yoshi's Egg in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The egg has a hurtbox and breaks when it takes enough damage. It can also be spawned as a regular item using Action Replay.

While Yoshi's Egg can be picked up and tossed around, it is not intended to be used as a weapon; rather, the objective is to protect it while playing as Yoshi. The egg will break if dropped or thrown too many times, which results in failing the event match. Nevertheless, it still functions as a throwing item that deals 17% damage, though this damage is not increased by a smash throw.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

From this game onward, on-screen appearances were reinstated, including the animation where Yoshi hatches from an egg.

The goal of Event 12: Sleeping in the Eggs involves Yoshi having to trap both Kirby and Yoshi inside Yoshi eggs at the same time.

In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]

As usual, eggs remain a part of Yoshi's moveset. From the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games onward, the egg spots now match the color of the Yoshi whom the player is playing as.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Eggs return as part of Yoshi's moveset.
