SmashWiki talk:User concerns and complaints

First of all the name could do with some better ideas I think it's a bit clunky.

But anyway, this was spawned by a Discord discussion where it was determined that we don't have an "inviting" way (for lack of a better word) for users with a private problem to come forth with said problem. Discuss. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yoshi 23:54, March 8, 2021 (EST)

I really like this. A system like this would streamline the process for any person who has a concern or complaint about someone else. I have no input to give on the page itself or the title - both look fine to me. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 03:06, March 9, 2021 (EST)

It certainly seems like a good idea, in principle, to have a process of dealing with these issues. That being said though, I am somewhat concerned about how certain aspects of this could be applied. For example: could this, in theory, be used to police good-faith SmashWiki users off-site, such as for comments that a user may disagree with (but aren't actually cases of harassment or discrimination)? We don't want to create a situation in which users constantly feel like they're being patrolled, even when off-wiki, do we? Again, I agree with this in principle, but I think it's important that great care and discretion is taken when handling user concerns. Alex the Weeb 13:46, March 9, 2021 (EST)

That's a fair point, but I don't think anyone is going to oppose banning a person who is openly discriminatory or intends to do harm to the wiki or a user. If a user is wary of what they're posting then maybe what they're doing probably isn't a good thing. Señor Mexicano (talk) 13:49, March 9, 2021 (EST)
I agree on that. In fact I've seen multiple instances of people bragging about plans to vandalize the Wiki on Twitter, for example. Clear cut cases of harassment or intent to damage the Wiki are not what concern me. It's how this process could potentially be abused, since it deals with off-wiki activity, that concerns me. I mean it's not like it's an automated process. The admins will review the complaint and determine if it's valid. The response section outlines this pretty clearly. Any bad faith users of the system will be punished accordingly. Señor Mexicano (talk) 14:09, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support. This seems like it would be useful, for instance with private problems as Toomai mentioned. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 13:54, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support. As with the other proposal, I see no real reason to oppose this. Señor Mexicano (talk) 14:09, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support: Just codifying in an official manner how we already operated. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 21:00, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support: I don't see any harm implementing this. For my signature. Omegα Toαd, the Toαd Wαrrior. (BUP) 21:08, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support: As I was the one who got this conversation rolling to begin with, it's pretty obvious where I stand, but I still wished to throw my support in regardless after reading and verifying it. Disaster Flare Changing my signature finally. (talk) 23:38, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support as I see nothing but good coming from the prospect of having this system. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss. Picture that will go next to my signature, a duplicate of Banjo & Kazooie's stock icon. 23:57, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Support. This sounds like a good idea to me. •Invisible Star• 00:15, March 10, 2021 (EST)

Support. Let's make some real change around here. Aidan, the Rurouni 00:16, March 10, 2021 (EST)

Strong oppose. What users do on other sites is their business. It wouldn't be fair to block someone who did nothing here for another user's grudge. This is the same as an actor getting fired for being doxxed. SeanWheeler (talk) 22:44, October 29, 2021 (EDT)

That's why there's discussion and not an instant ban. I think you're overthinking this. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 23:40, October 29, 2021 (EDT)
