Move to "Fighting Alloy arena" or something like that[edit]

See here. Mr. Anon (talk) 00:23, 17 October 2010 (EDT)

Disagree. Just like Final Destination, this is a too-close-to-be-coincidental stage that has no official name and should probably remain backwards-named for ease of understanding. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 10:03, 17 October 2010 (EDT)

Duel Zone?[edit]

According to Google Translate, the Japanese name for this stage (デュエルゾーン), if a space is added (デュエル ゾーン), translates to "Duel Zone." Note that it's not the same as the Melee/Brawl name, 戦場. Should we move the page, or...? Miles (talk) 16:05, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure I suggested this a while ago (maybe the talk page wasn't moved?), with my basis being that the SSB64 soundtrack I found on Kirby's Rainbow Resort called it the "Duel Zone". Whether the article should be renamed is a question of being official vs. common knowledge. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 16:09, 24 October 2010 (EDT)
Let us move it.--MegaTron1XD:p 16:11, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Perhaps we can name it Duel Zone, and mention in the article how the stage is commonly known as Battlefield due to its similarities with the stage of the same name in Melee and Brawl. Omega TyrantTyranitarMS.png 16:17, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

The similarity thing is already mentioned, but if we decide not to move it, make a mention of its name in Japanese. Omega TyrantTyranitarMS.png 16:18, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Alright, is the current version an appropriate compromise? Miles (talk) 16:57, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

It looks fine, though a move to Duel Zone would have been fine with me. Omega TyrantTyranitarMS.png 05:05, 25 October 2010 (EDT)

There was an agreed-upon compromise that was not a move. Miles (talk) 00:09, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

Move[edit]

So far I support the move per the reason in the {{Move}} tag, but can an established user move the page back to it's original title until consensus is reached? Superbound (talk) 12:19, December 27, 2020 (EST)

Do people refer it more as "Duel Zone" or "Battlefield"? CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 13:12, December 27, 2020 (EST)

It doesn't really matter what people refer to it as. The Wiki always uses official names for things like fighters, moves, and of course, stages. The official name is very clearly Duel Zone. Alex the Weeb 19:26, December 28, 2020 (EST)
Yeah that's not necessarily the case. Exceptions can, and sometimes are, made to that. Miles (talk) 20:28, December 28, 2020 (EST)
I'm quite familiar with SW:NOT, but as I'm sure you're aware, there are definitely things that we always use official names for. Again, for article titles we ALWAYS use official names for stages, just like we use official names for fighters. Alex the Weeb 20:33, December 28, 2020 (EST)

Bumping this with support for the move, I understand SW:NOT is a thing but it just seems really dumb to be willfully inconsistent with every single other stage? It's a matter of scope here, in my opinion; I don't see us suddenly changing Simon's SSBU page to Simon Belmont, despite players sometimes using their full names. If anything, this name change should have happened a long time ago. I think this is very different to "fanon" terminology such as tech since Ultimate outright states the stage's name, among other media. Hell, I've seen players call it Duel Zone before, it's not like the entire community calls it Battlefield. On the flip side, with "tech", that's not just a Smash term but a fighting game term as well, which extends far out of simple fanon. Why aren't we having Duel Zone be the standard name while Battlefield (SSB) serves as the redirect? --PlagueSigImage.pngPlague von KarmaPlagueSigImage.png 03:18, April 10, 2021 (EDT)

Oppose. I've always been of the opinion that the localisers of Ultimate gave it that name in English due to citogenesis. RickTommy 03:30, April 10, 2021 (EDT)
Support The citogenesis argument would mean that the travk would call it Battlefield (64) due to its similarity to future games' stages with the same layout and use for multi-man battles, not Duel Zone. Regardless, the unofficial rule really should not apply here, and should honestly only apply for fighting game terms like techs or forward tilts, not tossed around like we shouldn't follow what the games do. 72.219.72.215 18:14, April 10, 2021 (EDT)

To be clear, an official source referencing itself can't really be considered circular reporting, but even if if was it would be irrelevant for our purpose because it would still be a name in official use. I was the one putting up this move tag so I support it, of course. Rdrfc (talk) 03:48, April 11, 2021 (EDT)

Support. Considering the stage has always been known as Duel Zone, I think this would be the right move. That said, I believe we should continue to use "Battlefield" on competitive-relevant pages such as Stage legality. No one within the competitive community really calls it Duel Zone. Señor Mexicano (talk) 05:19, April 11, 2021 (EDT)

(Bumping this) Support per reasons above. I think Alex made the right call with his point above. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 00:58, June 17, 2021 (EDT)

Support per reasons above. While citogenesis would be a concern if "Duel Zone" was an unofficial fan nickname, the fact that it's simply a direct English translation of the stage's official Japanese name weakens that argument; as 72.219.72.215 pointed out, most SSB64 songs are given different titles in SSBU in order to be consistent with later titles (e.g. "Planet Zebes Stage" becomes "Brinstar (64)"), and yet Duel Zone (along with Meta Crystal and a few others) retains its original name instead of being updated to "Battlefield (64)". The fact that SmashWiki is not official means that we should not drop use of the "Battlefield" name entirely, but I do think that the official name takes precedence for the article's name. --PeabodySam (talk) 18:34, July 17, 2021 (EDT)
