Kid Icarus references

Could someone upload a video of Paluntena and Pit playing Brawl in Kid Icarus Uprising? I don't have the Japanese version, so I can't. 👾Harro👾 (talk) 04:32, 26 July 2014 (EDT)

Hyrule Warriors?

Would Sheik having a braid be a reference to Brawl's Sheik? Guybrush20X6 (talk) 17:00, 24 August 2014 (EDT)

Since Brawl's Sheik is a reference to TP's development, no. It still originates in the Zelda series, albeit as concept art. Miles (talk) 17:31, 24 August 2014 (EDT)

"Other franchises" section...

I don't think this section should have references from anything other than other video games and other official media based on video game properties (for example, the Sonic comics from Archie.) Otherwise this section would get really big and full of obscure stuff quickly. I'm also considering taking the Cartoon Network game off of there as well, since that isn't really a reference to Smash Bros. - other mascot fighters have existed for years now, such as Jump Super Stars, and the concept of assist characters and super moves didn't originate in Smash. PSASBR would remain, however, since it's a direct counterpart to Smash from a rival console manufacturer (of which there are only three, Nintendo and Sony being two) and its title is an explicit reference to this series' Japanese title, confirmed by that game's developers themselves. VinSymbol.pngVinLAURiA (talk) 08:13, 29 November 2014 (EST)

I think we should allow non-game-based references if the reference is blatant enough, but that raises the question of how we'd define such a thing. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Pan-Galactic 10:20, 29 November 2014 (EST)
I agree. At the moment, we really don't have any that are too questionable. (At least in my opinion.) ChuckNorrisFor usage in ChuckNorris24's signature.  11:26, 29 November 2014 (EST)
  • Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion is basically a cheap knock-off of Smash Bros. [1]
  • The MAD cartoon is a blatant reference to Smash Bros. [2]
  • As for the anime that was mentioned, I've never seen it. But given what was listed, it seems to have an obvious reference to Smash Bros.

All of the references that were removed were legitimate. ChuckNorrisFor usage in ChuckNorris24's signature.  11:50, 29 November 2014 (EST)

Bumping this. All references removed were legit, and we can put non-game references here as well; it's a reference list; if it's a reference to Smash Bros., it should go on the list. Also, you don't just remove stuff from pages if the removal might be controversial, as is now, and I firmly believe ChuckNorris24's rollback was not misuse (sorry if I sound a little hypocritical here, but I voiced my opinion). Now, based on what I said, may I or may I not revert the page before the removal? Rtzxy Image for my signature (and before you say it's too large, I'm going to resize it as [[|20px]]. Reflect! 18:39, 2 December 2014 (EST)
I'd say yes, the MAD one being the most notable of them, however CN: TPE is a gray area simply because it doesn't actually reference the series. Laikue (talk | contribs) 19:05, 2 December 2014 (EST)
All right, we can at least leave CN:TPE out unless someone says otherwise, but I'll add back the other two, since those are clearly references. Rtzxy Image for my signature (and before you say it's too large, I'm going to resize it as [[|20px]]. Reflect! 19:11, 2 December 2014 (EST)
CN: PTE was purposefully made to be similar to Smash Bros. I'd say it's fine to add unless someone has a really good reason not to. ChuckNorrisFor usage in ChuckNorris24's signature.  19:16, 2 December 2014 (EST)
Well, the thing is, CN:PTE doesn't actually reference Smash Bros. at all. This is a list of references, not a list of blatant ripoffs. Then again, I was the one who added it in the first place… Rtzxy Image for my signature (and before you say it's too large, I'm going to resize it as [[|20px]]. Reflect! 19:25, 2 December 2014 (EST)
But it references Smash with its gameplay. PSABR AND CN: PTE are really the only notable Smash ripoffs that have been made by major companies. I see no reason to leave it off of this page. ChuckNorrisFor usage in ChuckNorris24's signature.  19:33, 2 December 2014 (EST)
All right, I'll put it back. But if it gets removed, then there's that. Rtzxy Image for my signature (and before you say it's too large, I'm going to resize it as [[|20px]]. Reflect! 19:46, 2 December 2014 (EST)

My Edit

OK, so firstly, even though yes the sword was only used in Melee, it was still in the Spaceworld demo which predated it (and was supposedly going to be used in a Zelda title), so it's not really a reference at all to the series. Plus, we didn't include Sheik (two sections up) because she was based on concept art. As for Zelda, I really wouldn't call this a reference as she uses a LOT of things she's never used before in Hyrule Warriors (i.e. Dominion Rod, Wind Waker, Bombs, Hookshot, Regular Bow, Boomerang). Additionally, the spells are used in a vastly different fashion in Hyrule Warriors.

I won't deny that it's possible they're references, but it's highly suspect. Also, Zelda's Special attack with the Rapier is a single straight shot with her Light Bow (with a similar charge-up to Brawl), this could be a reference as well, but once again it is suspect. Laikue (talk | contribs) 23:21, 13 February 2015 (EST)

Ganondorf has never used that sword in a released Zelda game, but has in Smash. Zelda has never used the OoT spells in a Zelda game, but has in Smash. What's unclear about this? Miles (talk) 00:25, 14 February 2015 (EST)
Given how they seem to be taking everything from everywhere and squeezing it in somehow, it's kind of difficult to tell whether these particular things were a Smash Bros. reference or an independent thought process. Personally I think that Zelda using the spells is a more likely reference than OoT-Ganondorf having his sword. Toomai Glittershine ??? The SMASH-GINEER 10:05, 14 February 2015 (EST)

Zelda Spells

None of the spells appear in The Adventure of Link- however, some similar ones (Fire magic = Din's Fire, Shield/Reflect magic = Nayru's Love). However, there is no Farore's Wind counterpart, and there are differences (specifically the names). ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 14:47, 2 July 2015 (EDT)

I was thinking of the pendants. But I think it's worth a nod in the section. Perhaps we could mention it as a possible origin for the spells? LittleMacmain97, the World Circuit is mine! (Talk) 14:51, 2 July 2015 (EDT)
I mean, it's a potential origin in the Zelda games themselves, but not so much in the context of Smash where they're pretty clearly the OoT spells, which are then associated with Zelda herself in HW when they weren't in OoT. I don't see how that's relevant to the point we're making on this page. Miles (talk) 14:53, 2 July 2015 (EDT)
I see it as worthy enough to at least get a mention on the Zelda universe page. It seems like an origin to me. Plus, it's a Link to the Past. So much new stuff came outta there, it ain't a strech to think it's the origin of the spells. LittleMacmain97, the World Circuit is mine! (Talk) 14:59, 2 July 2015 (EDT)

xkcd?

Thoughts on whether this warrants a mention? The webcomic is fairly notable. Miles (talk) 01:21, 13 November 2018 (EST)

I personally think so. I mean, it does mention the name of the game after all. SonicSpeed48ThanksgivingSig4.pngSonic, the Thankful SpeedsterFallLovingTigger.png 01:24, 13 November 2018 (EST)
Given how Siri has no known physical appearance, it'd be interesting to see how it would appear in Smash... Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 01:35, 13 November 2018 (EST)

Nickelodeon trivia point

I happened to have made a page with all the references made. Is it possible that we can link that page here? Writing out all the references will probably crowd up the section as well. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 21:40, September 27, 2019 (EDT)

Possible reference in PK Flash

So I noticed something while playing Mother 3 is that PK Flash is green as opposed to white like in EarthBound, and in Melee PK Flash is also green. Mother 3 released in 2006, about 5 years after Melee, so there is a possibility that PK Flash being green might be based on its appearence in Melee.

It is still possible that it might be a coincidence though so... yeah  what are your thoughts? Image for my signiture icon. OmegαToαd64the Best Kαrter 23:53, April 30, 2020 (EDT)

While this could be a reference, it could also be a case of a franchise adopting a Smash Bros. aspect later in its series (which multiple series do, as evidenced by this very page). Aidan, the Rurouni 11:15, May 18, 2020 (EDT)

Smash reference in the Dillon series?

So, there's some concept art for Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers (which is viewable in-game, by the way, you just have to get good enough rankings on each stage), and one of them is of Dillon in a very similar pose to his trophy in Smash 4. For comparison:

  • Smash 4 trophy
  • DDHB concept art (This is probably the best quality it will be at until someone at The Spriter's Resource actually decides to rip this game)

Considering this is just concept art, but it is actually viewable within the game itself, is it fine to add it here? SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 09:16, July 16, 2020 (EDT)

Seems like it qualifies to me. Miles (talk) 14:45, July 16, 2020 (EDT)
