Smash the Record 2017 was a charity marathon which featured a wide variety of events for Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, such as singles, doubles, Stamina Mode, and an oven mitts tournament. It was the 4th edition of the Smash the Record tournament series. Many players did not take this tournament seriously, playing secondary or joke characters. Although technically only standard legal stages were allowed, many agreed to play on many other stages as well as changing game settings from match to match. For example, one round of loser's semis was played with 10 stocks, the Timer enabled and set to high, and 2x knockback.
