Ban and retirement[edit]

On November 2nd, 2025, a Smasher by the name of hotpocket released a statement on X regarding how a few months prior, Deathspade had repeatedly made unwelcome sexual advances towards him, which made him uncomfortable. Hotpocket also stated that, despite telling them he was straight and in a relationship, Deathspade continued to engage in said misconduct.[1] Deathspade later confirmed the allegations and apologized for their behavior towards hotpocket, revealing that they also got into conflicts with other Smashers over their behavior, and apologized to them as well. They also revealed that they had already been banned from events in the Heartland South and the Southwest for a few months.[2] Following this statement, further accusations were levied against Deathspade, including from Izaiah, who specified two separate instances with Deathspade — one while Deathspade was drunk and one while Deathspade was with him and his girlfriend — that made him feel uncomfortable.[3] Alongside their ban from those regions, Deathspade was also banned from attending Port Priority 9[4] and on November 9th, Kansas City Smash tournament organizers announced that Deathspade was banned for 1 year, starting from his initial suspension date on October 30th.[5]

Deathspade released a second statement on November 11th where he showed regret and apologized for his conduct and addressed the allegations that were made against him. For specific allegations, Deathspade apologized to hotpocket again but claimed that hotpocket had never told him to stop multiple times, and denied Izaiah's accusations as having been fabricated. He ended the statement saying that he had no plans on fully returning to Smash in the future.[6]

Trivia[edit]

  • Deathspade has come to be known on Twitter for his admiration for ApolloKage, admiration that is noted and joked about by many in the community.[7]
  • Coming off a common joke in the North American Smash community over Sora's lack of success at North American events, Deathspade's win over Scend at Gateway Legends 2023 was the first time a North American player successfully counterpicked Sora for a full set against a ranked player.
