Stage legality

Banned stages are stages that are banned from most competetive tournaments. These stages can be banned for several reasons, including:
- Providing an unfair advantage for certain characters (such as excessive camping)
- Allowing players to abuse glitches in the game
- Completely re-vamping the strategies needed to win (such as Temple and Icicle Mountain)
- Having a significant amount of slow-down during a match
Banned stages in SSB
- Yoshi's Island - Not all characters are able to recover from the clouds
- Planet Zebes - Acid
- Mushroom Kingdom - Pipe spamming/stalling; easy camping
- Sector Z - Overly large; Arwing lasers
Banned stages in SSBM
Banned in both singles and doubles
- Brinstar Depths - No ledges; stalling
- Flat Zone - Randomness of falling materials; too small
- Great Bay - Over reliance on camping
- Icicle Mountain - Randomly moving stage
- Hyrule Temple - Too large; over reliance on teching; see here for more.
- Yoshi's Island N64 - Same as in N64
- Yoshi's Island (Pipes) - Camping
- Venom - Slow-down; stalling and camping potential
- Fourside - Uneven recovery potential
- Mushroom Kingdom I - Completely irregular design
- Big Blue - Randomly moving stage
Banned for Singles Only
- Mushroom Kingdom II - All fighting centers on the middle platform
Banned for Doubles Only
- Fountain of Dreams - Significant slow-down during doubles play
- Mute City - Too small to accommodate doubles play

- Princess Peach's Castle - Banzi Bill; stalling
- Onett - Cars
- Kongo Jungle - Clap-trap
