Brawl?[edit]

Good luck if you accept ^_^ I will be on IRC LightningBlue405MS.png 15:40, 14 September 2013 (EDT)

Some questions/comments[edit]

First off the formatting is amazing on your matchup subpage and I need to steal some of it. Second, I see you play SSF2 as well. What do you think of the chars? If you need a competitive scoop look no further than me. Hint: Sonic is top tier and Peach is crap. Finally, are you up for a Brawl this weekend if I am available? Brawl[edit]

Would you be interested in a Brawl right now? my friend code is on my userpage. Awesome Cardinal 2000 21:16, 4 November 2013 (EST)

I'm available Friday after school ~4:30 PST. Can't do it on weekdays. Also, I owe Blue a match, so if I'm on IRC and you and Blue are too, and he asks me to play, I'll play him first. Sorry for the inconvenience! --Timson622222 (talk) 21:30, 4 November 2013 (EST)
Are you available now? Awesome Cardinal 2000 20:29, 8 November 2013 (EST)

I really appreciated your John Calvin reference on your page. Now, for the real question: are you, yourself, a Calvinisit? :) --SSB Symbol (flat).png davidvkimball 02:36, 24 December 2013 (EST)

Who thought Amsa was a fraud?[edit]

I'm curious. Amsa's article states that skeptics of Amsa thought that he'd be "exposed as the fraud that he was." I'm not doubting any skepticism given his main, but "fraud" is a serious charge. I'm not even sure one can commit fraud in the Smash scene without bribing other smashers to lose. Was it in the commentary or something? blue ninjakoopa 15:49, 30 January 2014 (EST)

"Fraud" is a generic fighting game community term for "overhyped" or "underpreformer", with no connotations to the normal English usage of the word. I do think the page could do without the term though. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Researcher 16:26, 30 January 2014 (EST)
Vocal critics claimed he was too overhyped and some even went as far to call him a "fraud" on social media. They were saying that although he was probably the best Yoshi, he beat no one worth mentioning except Mr. F (who is not even a ranked player) and just got a bunch of byes to advance, and anyone who was ranked could easily take him out at other tournaments. I'll remove the term, though, as it does have negative social connotations that not everyone might understand. --Timson622222 (talk) 20:44, 30 January 2014 (EST)

Want to Brawl?[edit]

Hey man, want to Brawl with 4 stock, no items and certain legal stages? If so, give me a call. Requiem of Ice (talk) 13:19, 2 March 2014 (EST)

Later today is a good time, maybe 4:00 PM (Pacific time.) 3 stocks though please. --Timson622222 (talk) 13:22, 2 March 2014 (EST)
Hmm I live in Central Standard Time (Louisiana), so what time would that be? And I could go three stocks, too. Did you add me yet? Requiem of Ice (talk) 14:16, 2 March 2014 (EST)
I might be late to 5 PST so that's about 6 and 7 for you, I think. Didn't add you yet, but I will when I get on. --Timson622222 (talk) 14:23, 2 March 2014 (EST)
Actually, never mind. I'm available now. --Timson622222 (talk) 14:31, 2 March 2014 (EST)

I'm good, let's go. Requiem of Ice (talk) 14:56, 2 March 2014 (EST)

That was a great Brawl, but do you want to know how I actually won? Requiem of Ice (talk) 16:38, 2 March 2014 (EST)

Ok? --Timson622222 (talk) 16:54, 2 March 2014 (EST)
Remember how I got out of those attacks with Link fast in the middle of them? It wasn't auto-cancelling, so it must have been...? (That's for you to answer.) Requiem of Ice (talk) 17:03, 2 March 2014 (EST)

Adaptation example[edit]

You left right when I was about to give this to you. Here's me initially losing to a another Marth (also named Brian) but show casing me adapting. Contact me again when you finished watching it and ready to ask how I adapted (unless you can figure it out yourself). --BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 02:29, 3 March 2014 (EST)

Chat?[edit]

Are you available any time to chat (either here or on the Kirby Wiki)? I want to talk to you about copy abilities. I feel our last conversation about them was rather poor. As I'm working on a copy ability competence list for each game, I'll need your input. blue ninjakoopa 18:24, 6 April 2014 (EDT)

Right about now. I'll be on for several more hours today, and perhaps tomorrow afternoon. hammer is top tier and paint sucks ha ha ha no. --Timson622222 (talk) 19:47, 6 April 2014 (EDT)

Determining smasher skill[edit]

Just curious: what defines an amateur, a pro-am, and a semi-pro? Chilex (talk) 22:36, 7 June 2014 (EDT)

I'm gonna go with my gut here. There's no real concrete description, but generally, an amateur is someone who doesn't attend tournaments and has little skill, and has only played against pros in friendlies, if at all. Basically a no-namer. A pro-am is someone who goes to tournaments but doesn't make big impacts in regionals, or can only do well in very small tournaments. A semi-pro is someone who can hold footing with stronger players, may be ranked on their PRs, and usually makes it out of pools at regionals, but doesn't make money from playing because they don't place very high. --Timson622222 (talk) 22:47, 7 June 2014 (EDT)

In response to this[edit]

This is why. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 08:44, 20 April 2015 (EDT)

I have read it, and I have understood his perspective a little bit better since. It's just that the circumstances surrounding his forfeit were initially very vague and there was a lot of misinformation spreading around, so I was a bit more upset/offset at first. I still remain disappointed that he dropped out, though, and think it could've been avoided. --Timson622222 (talk) 00:46, 21 April 2015 (EDT)

Notable?[edit]

Hey, is this guy notable enough to have a page? John John3637881 Signature.png PK SMAAAASH!! 13:50, 31 January 2016 (EST)

I believe so. He plays with top Chilean smashers, and has a popular YouTube channel. I also think that he holds his own in locals as well and gets top 5 in them, though I'm not entirely sure. --Timson622222 (talk) 21:19, 31 January 2016 (EST)
Some links would be nice. I believe you, but at the moment there's no proof of anything aside from the link to the Youtube channel. Other users might look at it and wonder why we have the page. John John3637881 Signature.png PK SMAAAASH!! 21:47, 31 January 2016 (EST)
He got 5th in a national(?) Chilean tournament that had ZeRo and Dark in attendance (here's him playing in losers' quarters). Plus, if we have pages about people who run YouTube channels like GRsmash now, I definitely think someone who's had a channel for much longer with about as high quality content deserves a page too, especially since they're also skilled at the game. --Timson622222 (talk) 23:56, 18 February 2016 (EST)
All right, that's convincing enough. Thanks for clarifying. John John3637881 Signature.png PK SMAAAASH!! 20:47, 19 February 2016 (EST)

Brawl matchups[edit]

Heisann, editor formerly known as Timson.

As someone who I seem to recall being more well-versed in this Brawl thing than I am, is the "current" matchup chart for Brawl still considered accurate, or have there been enough metagame changes since its publication that warrant it as outdated as our Melee matchup charts? Asking for this forum, trying to get a number of opinions.

--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 22:54, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

Heyo. I'm not too familiar with Brawl's scene as a whole, but here's how I view it.
2013-2014 was around when Melee started to pick up speed again while Brawl was on the decline. Since the matchup chart was made in 2013, which was around the end of Brawl's popularity, I feel like it is still a solid representation of Brawl matchups, at least moreso than Melee's. There are some slight inaccuracies such as Pikachu-MK being "even" when nearly every Pikachu main agrees that this isn't the case, but aside from a few new obscure techs being discovered, there haven't been significant metagame advancements since then, so the matchups should still hold. I do think you should get someone like OT to input on this, though, since I stopped following Brawl after around this time. -- Yellow sig.png Yellow of the Grove 23:25, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
As I understand it, matchups haven't really had an update (all 3 games) 5+ years, putting both Melee and '64 horribly out of date. This would be true of Brawl as well but since the game has been more or less dead since 2013 or so, there hasn't really been any advancement in the meta. If someone could look up when the last matchup spread came out, if it was close to the game's decline point, we could potentially consider the matchup spread to be up to date on those terms.
