Chances being, Captain Falcon will be the 2nd fastest, and Sonic will be the first.

No speculation, and remember to sig yourself with these: ~~~~ --Janitor 00:11, November 25, 2007 (EST)

i refuse to believe bowser is not in the bottom 5, let alone the top 20 Kperfekt722 (talk) 04:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Dash stopping animation[edit]

What's the braking thing when you stop dashing called? – Smiddle 02:16, 16 November 2014 (EST)

I don't think it has a popular name. Mechanically it's something like "RunStop" or "RunBrake". Toomai Glittershine ??? The SMASH-GINEER 10:06, 16 November 2014 (EST)
And what are the possible options out of it? Same as run? – Smiddle 16:52, 18 November 2014 (EST)
You can only jump and up smash (at least in Smash 3DS). PikaSamus (talk) PikaSamus 17:46, 18 November 2014 (EST)

SSB4 Dashing Speeds[edit]

Assuming people haven't already started testing this, can someone try to accomplish getting the speeds for the whole cast in SSB4? Aidan the Gamer 08:46, 21 November 2014 (EST)

Move[edit]

Strong support Not only is the page naming policy a factor, but it's also simple to implement. Berrenta (talk) 00:34, 26 December 2014 (EST)

The first problem that occurs to me with moving "dashing" to "dash" (both of which can be used as nouns) is that we can't also move "swimming" to "swim" (the latter which I don't think I've ever heard used as a noun in the way we'd need it), which would leave "swimming" as the only gerund amongst "walk", "dash", "jump", "crouch", "roll", and maybe some others I'm forgetting. Bumping to see what happens. Serpent King (talk) 22:11, 22 June 2015 (EDT)

I'm okay with having an exception where there is no possibility to fit in the rule, but having other exceptions like this so we can avoid only having one seems a bit unnecessary. Support. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 17:39, 22 July 2015 (EDT)

Top 5 Dashing Speeds[edit]

I haven't managed to get all the dashing speeds for the Smash 4 characters, but I have managed to narrow down the top 5.

  1. Sonic
  2. Captain Falcon
  3. Fox
  4. Zero Suit Samus
  5. Palutena

I may need to run this test again after making a few modifications to the stage (because I noticed the starting points on both parts were not at the same point), so this list is subject to change. Per Request, for User:Aidanzapunk.Aidan the Aura Master 10:04, 29 January 2015 (EST)

Um, dude? There's a tip ("The Three Fastest Fighters") that says Mac is faster than Fox. Although I suppose it's not impossible they made a mistake... Zyrac (talk) 10:24, 29 January 2015 (EST)
Like I said, the list is subject to change. I'll make some changes to the stage to make the testing a little more fair, then I'll see if I can't narrow down at least the top 10 (because doing all 51 characters is gonna be a pain in the ass). Eye-ball data okay?[edit]

http://smashboards.com/threads/smash-4-running-walking-speed-rankings.371564/ seems like a good preliminary until we have the actual data values. Is this allowed, or should we wait? FirstaLasto 12:15, 29 January 2015 (EST)

I would support that, because if we can use Smashboards data for this page, then I see no reason to not do it here. Per Request, for User:Aidanzapunk.Aidan the Aura Master 12:20, 29 January 2015 (EST)
Okay, I'll add it to the page and just put the "Currently, it is sourced from experimentation documented in this this SmashBoards post, and is not yet confirmed via data extraction." part, then. FirstaLasto 12:23, 29 January 2015 (EST)

Dr. Mario's dash speed in SSB4 and SSB5[edit]

If Dr. Mario has a slower run speed than in his normal persona, then how come the ranking says they move at the same speed?64.237.228.162 10:25, 7 April 2015 (EDT)

Multipliers are applied to his run speed and his other related stats. However, the multiplier's value is currently unknown. LimitCrown (talk) 10:28, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
Mulitpliers? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the technical workings of SMASH BROS., other than frames and hitboxes. What are multipliers?64.237.228.162 10:46, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
Well for example, all of Dr. Mario's attacks deal 1.12x the damage they're coded as. It seems that his movement values undergo a similar hidden transformation. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Free 11:53, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
In a sense, while the gameplay may show a difference, the data states that they're (without the multiplier on the Doc) exactly the same. Changing the head icon used. No biggie.Aidan, Master of Speed and AuraPer Request, for User:Aidanzapunk. 12:04, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
I think I understand now. Thank you all very much.64.237.228.162 12:45, 7 April 2015 (EDT)
Is Dr. Mario's current dashing speed accurate? It seems close, but I tried testing it against Little Mac's walking speed of 1.32 and it seems Dr. Mario's a little faster than that. Just curious, is the 0.82 multiplier accurate? --Sponge Pore (talk) 00:58, 28 May 2015 (EDT)

Rename[edit]

How does the current page not fit the guidelines? "Dashing" is a noun, derived from the verb "dash". – Smiddle 07:08, 10 June 2015 (EDT)

Support "Dashing" is actually a verb because you can't say "the dashing". "Dash" is also a verb; however, it can also be a noun as in "Peach made a dash for the door." Jigglypoof21 (talk) 01:26, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
Support. We have an article called "Wavedash", but not one called "Dash". Seems like it should be moved. John NessHeadSSBB.png PK SMAAAASH!! 08:42, 9 September 2015 (EDT)

Slowed Dashing in SSB4[edit]

I posted this elsewhere in the wiki, but it was to be discussed on a talk page more suitable for the subject (I'm guessing this is it?). Anyway, I'm not sure if anyone noticed this in SSB4, but when dashing, tilting the control stick or circle pad diagonally downward (just enough to where you're still running) will slow down your character's dash speed a bit (fairly noticable by the slower dashing animation though custom fighter stats (such as speed or defense equipment) could affect its notability). I did this with Dr. Mario in the Wii U version and did this with Mario in the demo of the 3DS version. I'm unsure if or how this mechanic is useful in smash battles and I forgot about it around the time I was playing Brawl; I was younger at the time but I originally discovered it in that game. Is anyone else able to do/show this? I currently have no way of showing a comparison between the normal and "slowed" dash speed myself (though it may barely be any different from each other).

...or is there already a page for this?

Yin10Dou (talk) 21:05, 8 September 2015 (EDT)

I am not seeing where this is notable enough for a page on its own, but it could be mentioned here if someone has proof. SerpentKing (talk) 18:46, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
I can actually confirm this. I remember seeing this somewhere before. Changing the head icon used. No biggie.Aidan, Master of Speed and AuraPer Request, for User:Aidanzapunk. 18:53, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Cloud's Dash Speed[edit]

My friend and I went on Smash 3DS after he downloaded Cloud, and we tested for his weight (which is documented on said page already) and his dashing speed. From the looks of it, Cloud appears to dash at about the same speed as Meta Knight, but we don't have any technical data to be absolutely sure. Is anyone able to confirm this? Could we include Giga Bowser's and Wario-man's Speeds in here too?[edit]

I'd like to know what they are. Unowninator (talk) 15:21, 13 January 2016 (EST)

We did it for weight (except Wario man's must be the same as Wario's) so it would make sense to have their stats here too. -- Ethan (Discussion) 15:25, 13 January 2016 (EST)

Lucario's run speed[edit]

  • It seems that Lucario's run speed for Super Smash Bros. 4 hasn't been updated. However, I don't even know when the buff happened, or if Lucario's run speed was always set to 1.55. 67.242.7.137 09:46, 5 May 2016 (EDT)

Could we include Giga Bowser's, Giga Mac's, and Wario-man's Speeds in here too?[edit]

Yeah, I asked this before, but due to the 6 month rule I had to make it again. Can I please put an {{incomplete}} template or something in? (I'm pretty sure Mega Lucario's speed doesn't change, so I left him out). Unowninator (talk) 15:16, 25 August 2016 (EDT)

Dash Speed Chart Arrangement[edit]

Anyone here know why it is that the Running Speed bracket for characters' run speed(s) ISN'T the first bracket listed when looking across from their general ranking(s), but the Initial Dash bracket IS, despite it NOT being the overall determining factor in HOW said ranking(s) are ordered by? —Preceding unsigned comment added by C107galaxytachyon (talkcontribs) 18:07, March 12, 2022 (EST)

Since the page is named for dashing, it makes sense for that to be first. As for why it is sorted by running speed, maybe it was determined that was more important to sort by. Looking at the edit history, Smash 4 was added in the way it currently is, Melee was ranked by dash, and 64 and Brawl only listed dash. Later Brawl was fleshed out and used Smash 4s ordering, Ultimate became a thing and did the same, then 64 was filled in, and Melee was eventually reordered to match the rest. --CanvasK (talk) 18:44, March 12, 2022 (EST)
