(The system came with four or five games already, and being the naive 8-year-old that I was, I wasn't completely aware that I could buy more). To this day, it's still an amazing game that is home to many of my fondest memories, and remains among my favorite games of all time. Afterwards, I would later gain access to its predecessors via a family friend who owns tons of games and consoles, and as of a couple years ago, a Smash Club at my high school (where I'm regarded as the best Mario player in the group for all the games). I was looking forward to ''Smash 4'', since it combines both ''Melee'' and ''Brawl'' to an extent, and that way I could at least get SOMEWHAT of a feel for what Melee was like due to my rather limited time with it. I ended up buying the 3DS version as a Day 1 purchase, and got the Wii U version alongside the console itself on Christmas of 2014...and needless to say, I love 'em both, even considering the Wii U version to be one of my favorite games of all time as well! I have played all four of the games and consider ''Smash 4'' to be the best, followed by ''Brawl'', then ''64'', and finally ''Melee''. I've also played ''Project M'', though I only enjoy it slightly more than I enjoy ''Melee'', and I plan on downloading ''Brawl-'' at some point due to the great things I've heard about it.

I am able to play both versions of ''[[Super Smash Bros. 4]]'' online now, so if you want to play me, I'm most likely able to; (more info can be found through one of the links on my subpage list). Though I do pay a fair amount of attention to the competitive ''Smash'' scene, I have absolutely no interest in being a part of it, making me a strict casual player.

MB104's Pro-Tip: Naturally, everyone who plays Smash will eventually come up with their own "personal combos" with certain characters, which they will commonly use to get the better of opponents. However, your opponents will eventually learn these combos and before you know it, they won't be as useful. Therefore, it is recommended that you keep at least three combos memorized with each character you main, so that you can easily turn the tables on opponents. Additionally, it is imperative that you not use one of them too often for the reasons mentioned earlier in this post.

Introduction:

What's good, chili dawgs??? I'm MeatBall104, formerly known as SmashBall104. My first introduction to the SSB series was through Super Smash Bros. My Stance on the Smash series:

Super Smash Bros.

Due to "Throwback Month" at my school's Smash Club, I was finally able to try Smash 64 out, and now I can safely hold my opinion that Melee is the worst in the series. I prefer how the game handles, (though charging smash attacks and rolling felt a little off) and I love the sound direction and much more creative stage design. The roster, while much smaller, is also a lot more balanced and diverse, and the 1P modes aren't too shabby. The only real complaint I have with the game is the visuals. While the color palette is nice and varied, the models for most characters and objects are just ugly. Like Melee and PM, I don't play this game unless it's being played at my school's Smash Club.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

I don't have access to this game, outside of a Smash Bros. Club at my school that meets every Monday after school. In spite of that, I've managed to play the game enough, and now I can safely say that I think it's the worst out of all the Smash Games I've played, (don't get me wrong, it's still a decent game overall, and the best out of the few GCN games I've played). While I think this game did some things better than Brawl, (Event Matches, Target Smash, Classic/All-Star Mode, etc.), a few things were done worse. The roster is pretty bland, with most of the characters being poorly designed, (though with around 8 good ones) the largest amount of clones in any Smash game to date, and the roster as a whole being severely unbalanced, (though once again, the top 8 are well-designed, and they are perfectly balanced amongst themselves). Also, the stages weren't as memorable as those of the other games, with an unhealthy amount of Battlefield clones, and only a few stages having stage hazards and gimmicks that make you want to replay them, (though I guess these designs would be good for tournament play). And finally, there's the hilariously stupid AI, which makes short work of all the 1P modes, and makes fights a bore, (not to mention that due to the game's terrible character randomization, you'll often end up fighting a CPU Fox should you set it to random). Fortunately, the game still manages to be a great source for multiplayer fun, but that's something that the other games do just as well, if not better. Overall, this is my least favorite game in the series, and no amount of controller exploits can change my viewpoint.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I love this game. Pretty much everything that Melee did wrong was improved upon, and more great additions were added. Unlike a number of reviewers, I enjoyed the Subspace Emissary a lot, and even though certain plot elements were eliminated to meet a deadline, I had enough fun to not care. On the downside however, pretty much all of the 1P modes were butchered. Thankfully, the AI is eons better than Melee's, so now I can have fun Brawling even without someone to play with. I always enjoy creating ridiculous custom stages, and staring at the game's gorgeous visuals. For a while, I thought this was the definitive Smash game, until Smash 4 was announced. Due to Brawl having its own merits that make it worth revisiting occasionally, (e.g. the SSE) I still continue to play Brawl from time to time even with both versions of Smash 4 under my belt.

Project M

The only Smash mod I've played, and I honestly find it rather disappointing, and about on par with Melee, (a game that I consider mediocre and quite frankly overrated). For my full thoughts, you can simply check out this guy's userpage, as I can't summarize my opinions on PM without almost completely parroting him.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

If I were to count both versions of Smash 4 as separate games (which they effectively are given the large amount of exclusive content on each), I would say that this is my second favorite of the series. At first, I thought it would be just a quick cash-in that would only serve to hold people off until Smash U came out, and/or have a version of a highly anticipated game on a system that kids are more likely to own compared to the Wii U. Because let's be honest here...handheld versions of console releases are quite notorious for being made on the cheap, and having little to no effort put into them, (such as Batman: Arkham City, Sonic Generations, and Tomb Raider: Underworld). However, my worries were dashed as soon as I purchased this game from the eShop on Day 1. I think the physics are hands-down the best in the series, (I thought that Brawl was too floaty, but I also thought that Melee was too fast), and I like what they did to the ledge mechanics. I also think the roster is the most diverse and balanced of them all, (which is not an easy thing to do with a roster of over 50). The new modes were all very enjoyable, though I'd still prefer to have Target Smash instead of a Home-Run Contest clone. In fact, I didn't even care that the Event Matches weren't here. Unlike most reviewers, I really love Smash Run, and had no problems with the controls, (though the latter may be because I'm so used to using the Wiimote sideways). However, the game cannot be given a perfect score because of it's laggy local multiplayer, (seriously, you'd probably have a better time playing online With Friends), and the overabundance of retro stages, (most of the universes that had original stages representing them in previous games didn't even have originals in this game, instead relying on old stages), with the Melee ones already having been reused before. Where's Poké-Floats? Where's Fourside? Where's Brinstar Depths? Where's Venom? Another complaint I have is the process of unlocking customizations (an issue which is also present in the Wii U version) as they are always unlocked at random, and can only be unlocked easily through excessively playing the 1P modes, (which in my view, doesn't sound like a fun way to do so). Why can't there be a customs shop where we can buy whatever equipment, Mii outfits, and specials we want anytime? There's a shop for trophies, so why not a shop for customizations? It would make unlocking the customs for all 50+ characters much less tedious, and make the in-game currency more useful (particularly for those who have gotten all the trophies). Finally, the other issue is that there's not really anything exciting to unlock, besides songs and stages. Most of the roster, including most of the newcomers are available from the start, and the majority of the unlockables are just clones, (yes, clones are back, but thankfully there's far fewer of them than before). Overall, this game is a blast. Great graphics, fantastic AI, great sound direction, and all that. Unlike other people who bought both versions, I still play this version to this day, mostly for the occasional Smash Run, and if I can't be at home with my Wii U.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Now THIS is the definitive Smash game! Astounding presentation, an online experience that is much better than that of Brawl and even Smash 3DS', much more content than all the previous games combined, and an improved single-player campaign, which includes what I consider to be the best Classic Mode in the series, (due to it being a combination of Melee's and Smash 3DS'), and my new favorite 1P mode: Special Orders. All the complaints I had for the 3DS version still apply here, except for my issues with the controls, local multiplayer and the stage selection, (though the latter one is still somewhat of an issue, as most universes now have half of their stages being reused from previous games, and half of them new). I like the ability to transfer content between versions, since it allowed me to instantly get into the game and play it just as well. The only real flaws that I have with the game are its version of All-Star Mode, (which I also hated in the 3DS version), and Smash Tour, which both suck! Also, the Stage Builder was somehow made both better and worse than the one in Brawl. It's better, since it allows for more abstract designs, but is also worse since it removed many of the different platform types and hazards from the previous one.
