Armada is a smasher from Sweden who mains Peach. He is Aniolas's younger brother and Android's older brother. Initially considered only a promising player, Armada later emerged as the best Peach player in Europe, and his fame continued to grow in the community. In July 2007, he surprised the whole European community by claiming 4th place at The Renaissance of Smash 4, almost knocking Amsah out in losers' semis (who was then considered the best player in Europe). Armada is considered the best Peach main in the world, and with an ELO score of 2149, the now discontinued SSBPD ranked him as the best Melee player in the world, edging out competition from Hungrybox and Mango.

Armada is mainly known for his domination of tournaments in the United States from 2011 until 2013, and domination of tournaments in Europe from 2009 until 2014, and currently remains one of the top players in the world, frequently being considered one of the "five gods" (along with the four top players in the United States; PPMD, Mango, Mew2King, and Hungrybox). He is also known for holding a five-year winning streak against Mew2King, not losing to him in Melee singles tournaments until SKTAR 3 in 2014.

History

In Armada's second major tournament, Epita Smash Arena 2 (also currently the largest European tournament of all time), Armada placed 3rd in singles. Later in 2009, Armada won Epita Smash Arena 3 and SMASH ATTACK. He also attended his first tournament in the United States, GENESIS, in which he won sets against DaShizWiz, Mew2King and Mango in the winners' bracket, and played undefeated before losing to Mango in 2 sets during grand finals, placing 2nd in the Melee singles tournament.

In 2010, he entered Pound 4, which was his second US tournament. He placed 4th, which some considered disappointing in comparison to his upset-laced placing at GENESIS. He also attended Apex 2010 and placed 2nd.

In 2011, Armada started using Young Link against Hungrybox at Pound V, after losing to him at Apex 2010, since Hungrybox's style of Jigglypuff play countered Armada's Peach. He placed 2nd at Pound V, behind Dr. PeePee. Later that year, he won GENESIS 2, his first major tournament victory in the US, beating Mango in grand finals. This was the start of a nearly two year long period in which Armada consistently won all of the major nationals in the US that he entered.

In 2012, Armada won Apex 2012 in both Melee singles and doubles with Mew2King, having beaten top professionals such as Shroomed, Dr. PeePee, Mango, and Hungrybox. Armada then defended his titles in 2013, winning Melee singles at Apex 2013 by defeating Silent Wolf, Wobbles, KirbyKaze, and Dr. PeePee, and winning Melee doubles alongside Mew2King by defeating Aza and Javi, Shroomed and PewPewU, and also Hungrybox and Plup in Grand Finals.

After Apex 2013, Armada announced his retirement from competitive Melee singles events, although he did return to compete in EVO 2013, where he placed 4th.

After one year, Armada announced his return to the competitive Melee scene, and entered the B.E.A.S.T 4 Melee singles tournament, placing 2nd behind Leffen. At this point, Armada started using a lot of Fox in singles, alongside his Peach. Armada had previously used Fox sparingly in tournaments, including against Mango in the second set of grand finals at GENESIS, and in doubles at said tournament against Hax and Hungrybox. In an interview with Armada at Avalon III, Armada stated that he would be using Fox primarily against Jigglypuff and in the Fox ditto in the future, the matchups he claimed to have the most trouble with using Peach. In the same interview, he also stated that he would be attending major tournaments in the US once again to try and regain his throne, confirming that he was fully active in the scene once again.

However, after losing to Leffen 6-1 and 6-0 in grand finals at B.E.A.S.T 4 and Republic of Fighters 3, respectively, Armada said that his Fox was not ready for events in the summer, and that he would likely not use him until next year. Armada has since started using Peach against Fox again, subsequently managing to defeat top Fox players in tournament, such as Mango. Additionally, during his set against Hungrybox at MLG Anaheim 2014, Armada used only Young Link and managed to win 3-0, despite not having used Young Link in tournament since Apex 2013.

During 2008 and 2009, Armada occasionally entered Brawl tournaments, primarily using Sheik. He won Brawl singles at SMASH ATTACK and placed 17th in Brawl singles at GENESIS, though he never made any large impacts in the Brawl scene and has not played Brawl competitively since.

Armada also plays the Brawl mod, Project M, where he uses Pit. He is considered the premier Pit main in the world, making full use of his character's aerial combos, followups, and edgeguarding, infamously disrupting recoveries with Palutena's Arrow. Armada won Project M singles at Apex 2014 and proceeded to win Project M tournaments without dropping a single set for four months, until Professor Pro took a set off of him in winners finals at Smash or DI (though Armada still won two sets of grand finals). He has defeated a large number of Melee and Brawl professionals in tournament with his Project M Pit, taking sets off of Mew2King, DEHF, Mango, and others. Armada lost his first Project M tournament at SKTAR 3, placing 5th after losing to Emukiller and ESAM.

Trivia

  • In Project M, Armada is often called the Swedish Sniper due to him using Pit and often using Palutena's Bow to "snipe" opponents attempting to recover.
  • Armada and Ken are the only players with a positive records against Mango (Armada's set record is 5-4).
    • However, in Ken's case, he has not played Mango since 2007.
