(Since we have articles for trailers from SSBB and SSB4, I figured it would make sense to have one detailing the trailers from SSBU. Definitely still need to add links to the trailers and some pics.)

The Inkling's debut trailer (though it was not clearly specified at the time) was shown at the conclusion of the March 8 Nintendo Direct. The beginning of this trailer is fittingly identical to the debut trailer for Splatoon at E3 2014. Ultimately, it culminates in the Inkling girl turning around and looking at a fiery object. The image of the Super Smash Bros. logo is reflected in her eye. The camera then pans to the logo itself with multiple veterans shown standing in front of it. Closeups of Mario and Link (in his Breath of the Wild outfit]] are shown, followed by a provisional logo and title for the game. The trailer ends with a provisional release date.

The beginning of this trailer has a pair of male and female Inklings fighting each other, identical to the debut trailer for Splatoon at E3 2014. After a few seconds of fighting, the Inkling girl comes to a halt as the white void fades to black. She turns around to look at the large, fiery object as the only source of light in the room. As she watches in dismay, the object is revealed to be the Super Smash Bros. logo, with its image being reflected in her eye. The camera cuts back to both Inklings  staring towards the logo and veterans, while the screen fades to white, followed by a provisional logo, title and release date of 2018 for the game.

This trailer was not named after the Inklings or Splatoon in any fashion. It was titled "Super Smash Bros. is coming to Nintendo Switch!".

Ridley's trailer, titled "A Piercing Screech" was first shown at the conclusion of Nintendo's E3 2018 video presentation. The trailer opens with a portion of a white Super Smash Bros. logo as the camera zooms in and then showcases a dark room. In this room, Samus, Mega Man and Mario are seen walking cautiously. Mega Man is grabbed off-screen and then pierced by a tail, as is Mario (whose hat is left on the ground. Samus turns around and readies her arm cannon as she sees Mario's hat laying on the ground. A creature comes crashing down in front of her, revealed to be Ridley. Ridley lets out a screech as the tagline "Ridley Hits the Big Time!" appears on screen. Ridley then twirls Mario's hat as the trailer moves to in-game footage. Various moves of Ridley are shown off through the in-game footage, including his Final Smash. After the Ultimate logo is shown on screen, CGI footage of Meta Ridley is shown off. Then, Zero Suit Samus jumps into the air and prepares to kick Ridley before the trailer concludes.

Revision as of 02:45, June 17, 2018

There have been three main trailers released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate so far. All newcomers and veterans are confirmed through these trailers. Like its predecessor, most trailers for the game are animated with CGI while also showing in-game footage of the characters.

Also like SSB4, some newcomers have poster artwork.

Below is a list of all the character trailers for the confirmed newcomers.

Inkling

The Inkling wasn't given a specific trailer, but made their debut along the game's reveal on its teaser trailer, simply titled "Super Smash Bros. is coming to Nintendo Switch!", at the conclusion of the March 8th Nintendo Direct. The camera pans to the logo with multiple veterans shown standing in front of it. Closeups of Mario and Link (wearing the Champion's Tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) are shown. The camera cuts back to both Inklings staring towards the logo and veterans, while the screen fades to white, followed by a provisional logo, title and release date of 2018 for the game.

The Inkling was only officially announced as a newcomer in the "Everyone is here!" trailer, shown in Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation on June 12th, with the male Inkling joining her as an [alternate costume].

Daisy

Daisy wasn't given a specific trailer, but made her debut in Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation, after the "Everyone is here!" trailer. After announcing beforehand the Echo Fighter status of previous veterans Dark Pit and Lucina (Echoes of Pit and Marth respectively), Sakurai confirmed Daisy as another Echo Fighter, this time of Peach.

Ridley

Ridley's trailer, titled "[A Piercing Screech]", was first shown at the conclusion of Nintendo's E3 2018 video presentation. The trailer opens with a portion of a white Super Smash Bros. logo marking as the camera zooms in and then showcases a dark room. In this room, Samus, Mega Man and Mario are seen walking cautiously. Mega Man is grabbed off-screen and then pierced by a tail, as is Mario (whose hat is left on the ground). Samus turns around and readies her arm cannon as she sees Mario's hat laying on the ground. A creature comes crashing down in front of her, revealed to be Ridley. Ridley lets out a screech as the tagline "Ridley Hits the Big Time!" appears on screen, twirling Mario's hat as the trailer moves to in-game footage. Various of Ridley's moves are shown off through the in-game footage, including his Final Smash. After the Ultimate logo is shown on screen, CGI footage of Meta Ridley is shown off. Then, Zero Suit Samus jumps into the air and prepares to kick Ridley before the trailer concludes.
