Lethal Marathon (めざすゴールはただひとつ, There's Only One Goal to Reach) is the 33rd event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is a reprise of Stage 8: F-Zero Grand Prix of Adventure Mode, where the goal is to reach the end of the stage in the time limit. Unlike in Adventure Mode, the time limit is shorter (45 seconds), the game runs at double speed, and the F-Zero racers can all hit the player in succession for massive damage and an OHKO. The difficulty therefore lies in navigating the stage with Captain Falcon's high falling speed and progressing forwards while avoiding the cars.
It is possible to survive getting hit, if the player is only hit by the last F-Zero machine, or by DIing out of the F-Zero machines into the ground and teching, though both are almost impossible to perform with the sped-up gameplay. There are also certain points on the field where the player is safe from the cars if he/she ducks, most notably the platforms and bends in the road.
