Event 22: Super Mario 128
Super Mario 128 (スーパーマリオ128, Super Mario 128) is the 22nd event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The player must KO a total of 128 tiny Marios in groups of three to five. Almost any attack is capable of instantly killing and dispatching a Mario, except for horizontal-hitting attacks that they may be able to survive through wall teching should they be hit from the stage's center. The Marios are also capable of KO'ing each other.
The name of this event match is a reference to a GameCube tech demo entitled Super Mario 128, part of which involved 128 small Marios interacting with each other and a small globe that they stood on. The tech demo was originally intended as a sequel to Super Mario 64 but it was ultimately cancelled; elements from its development were worked into various games such as Pikmin and Super Mario Galaxy.
