Trouble King is the 1st event match in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

The player controls Mario, who must win a 2 stock match against a CPU Bowser on the Battlefield stage. The event match features no time limit. When the match starts, Mario spawns at center of the main platform, and Bowser spawns above the topmost platform. Bowser is heavily handicapped and his artificial intelligence is set to Level 1.

This event match has a successor in the form of Event 42: Trouble King 2. It received another follow-up in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with Event 1: Two Trouble Kings.

The music track that plays in this match, "Multi-Man Melee 2", is not used in any other event match until Event 51: The Showdown. In this regard, the two event matches can serve as bookends of the mode.
