Trivia

  • The vote-in process for Smash Summit 13 achieved a number of firsts:
    • Due to exactly 20 people opting in during the nomination phase, salami was able to advance all the way to the first round of vote-ins (before being eliminated) despite having 0 nominations.
    • DarkGenex's total vote count of approximately 100,700 votes marks the only time a player that was voted in had a vote count that eclipsed the rest of the players in the running combined (approximately 71,800 votes).
    • For the first round of vote-ins, there was a vote difference of over 84,600 votes between DarkGenex and Sora, the largest gap between two players voted in during the first round of a Smash Summit.
    • Sora became the first vote-in for two consecutive Smash Summits since aMSa at Smash Summits 5 and 6, as well as the only player to get voted in during the first round for two Summits in a row since the multi-period voting system was introduced for Smash Summit 3.
  • This is the first Melee Smash Summit with no Pikachu mains, and the first where everyone mains a top or high tier character.
    • However, Axe was still present as a VIP, ensuring the continued presence of a Pikachu player in the venue for every Melee Summit.
  • During the event, there was a positive COVID-19 case (FendrickLamar) that subsequently spread, resulting in the event being delayed on its third day.[5][6]
    • DarkGenex tested positive for COVID, unfortunately becoming the first player to have to DQ during a Summit event due to the virus.
    • Sora tested negative, but felt unwell and dropped out due to his roommate Bundun testing positive.
    • Plup felt unwell and took the day off, potentially electing to start in Losers side of the final bracket on Day 4.
    • Blue tested positive and dropped out on Day 4.
    • The 3 dropouts resulted in a final bracket of 13 players, making Smash Summit 13 the first Smash Summit of any game to have under 16 players in the final bracket.
    • A Red Bull Gauntlet ft. Plup event was planned for Day 3, postponed to Day 4 after the outbreak, and was eventually cancelled.
    • The Smasher's Council was cancelled at the final 4, and the $3,000 prize was split between the 4 remaining players.
    • The event was restricted to necessary personnel only on the last two days, so VIP attendees were refunded $500, 50% of the buy-in cost. This also stopped the VIP bracket at the top 8.
