Considering Reformatting the Sm4sh and Project M section (Completed)[edit]

Recently I remade the Ultimate section to introduce winners before the final version of the game, to make it more clear about the games history. But I'm not sure about remaking the Sm4sh section because its very unclear on what is considered a major or a national back then, so I could either introduce past winners before the final version, but that would require needing to find a whole bunch of tournaments that are considered nationals which isnt very well documented, or I could remake it to only have majors but that would cut out a lot of people who didn't win them and only won nationals. Wondering what the consensus would be on that. DeeLegend (talk) 18:09, November 7, 2023 (PST)

We have a list of tournaments the wiki refers to as a "major". You can start from there.
Also, if you want you can copy the format that I've done on this page, where I separated major wins from pre-final patch to post-final patch. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 14:43, November 8, 2023 (EST)
Thank you! Ended up using both smashwiki and liquipedia to find all the majors, all thats left is to remake the project M section and maybe clean up the page to make it easier to read. DeeLegend (talk) 11:39, November 12, 2023 (PST)
No problem, though I should note that a lot of tournaments Liquipedia considers "majors" aren't considered majors on the wiki... heck even some aren't considered majors by Liquipedia editors themselves, but they don't like doing retiering so they don't change it. Might make Ultimate soon (Completed)[edit]

Gonna make an Ultimate section soon, do expect to wait a couple hours or days though, theres a lot of tournaments to search through Smoceany (talk) 09:32, September 30, 2021 (EDT)

Never mind, I forgot I don't know how to make those bracket things, I made a google doc for it using the list of national tournaments page, here is the doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/10YYez66F6jisaENMPGGoaIvDMFiyJq4pccyp2Xlt7l4/edit?usp=sharing Smoceany (talk) 10:21, October 1, 2021 (EDT)
The reason why one hasn't been made for Ultimate yet is because the game is still in active development and is not in its latest relevant version. Both Smash 4 and Project M only take into account results from the latest patch. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 10:26, October 1, 2021 (EDT)
Ok sorry, thanks for telling me Smoceany (talk) 07:39, October 2, 2021 (EDT)

Tournament methodology[edit]

Hi, just wanted to ask about how you decide to select notable tournament wins to list with players, as in Ultimate, both Hurt and Raru have won supermajors with Snake and Luigi, with Hurt winning Smash Awesome! and Raru winning UltCore Fourth. PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 01:53, February 13, 2025 (EST)

Hurt also just won Genesis X2, do you think that would be a good tournament to add for him? PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 04:04, February 22, 2025 (EST)

Syrup[edit]

Hi again, was curious about what you would be doing with Syrup after his recent win at Cavalier Clash 6. I know he used majority Steve, but was his Ness usage enough to justify saying Ness has won a major in Ultimate as well? PurpleCoffinMan (talk) 21:39, March 2, 2025 (EST)

This is the criteria we are following at the moment. Syrup's Ness was only used in 2 confirmed sets, so we do not count it as a major win for Ness (unfortunately). CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 23:29, May 24, 2025 (EDT)

Contested major wins[edit]

Would it be worth making a section about contested major wins? (That is, players that haven't won a major, but have won a tournament that was tiered as A tier or above by their respective ranking systems, but isn't considered a major by SmashWiki due to the lack of top talent). Some examples in Ultimate's final patch would be France crêpe salée winning Ultimate Fighting Arena 2024 and gamescom LAN x CGN Open with Steve (SSBU)Steve, Japan Masha winning Grand Slum 17 with Wolf (SSBU)Wolf and Mexico Maister winning OH-BAI-TOH-RI 2 with Mr. Game & Watch (SSBU)Mr. Game & Watch. 1.159.22.103 12:10, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

I don't really think it's necessary, especially since 1) these are for wiki major wins, and 2) this is a userpage, not an actual mainspaced wiki page, so we don't really need to put too much into it. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 23:29, May 24, 2025 (EDT)

Raki[edit]

does raki's kazuya usage at Sumabato SP 53 count enough for a major win for him? if not, then what counts as a character winning a major?TheLegendaryBrick (talk) 20:23, May 15, 2025 (EDT)TheLegendaryBrick

This is the criteria we are following at the moment. Raki's Kazuya was only used in 2 confirmed sets, so we do not count it as a major win for Kazuya. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 23:29, May 24, 2025 (EDT)

Rarikkusu[edit]

Hi, I was wondering about how we should order this player’s character usage in their recent win at Sumabato SP58? Their Falco went 1-0 in Winners Semis, their Steve won a set in Winners Finals but lost a set in Grand Finals, and their DK went 1-0 in True Finals. The best win Rarikkusu obtained in this run was KEN in True Finals. NadaWaffles (talk) 08:04, May 24, 2025 (EST)

I'm not sure why you are asking here, since this isn't the page for Sumabato SP 58. That being said, we always order by how many times a player used a character in tournament. Rarikkusu used mostly Falco prior to top 8, so Falco is listed first. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 23:29, May 24, 2025 (EDT)
