This is a list of characters who make an appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series, but are not a fighter, a summon character, an item, an enemy, a moveset element, a stage element, or a collectible (trophy, sticker, spirit, or Mii costume).

Instead, these characters only appear in circumstances that are otherwise not gameplay-related and appear nowhere else in the game. These can include Smash 64's congratulations screens, Melee's opening movie, the character posters for Smash 4 and Ultimate, and the character trailers for Smash 4 and Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros.[edit]

Ness's congratulations screen features Paula, Jeff, Poo, a Mr. Saturn, Lucky and Nice of the Runaway Five, the Frankystein Mark II, and an Ultimate Octobot.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

The opening movie contains several characters who otherwise make no other appearance in the game.

In a scene where Samus is fighting Ridley on Ceres, the latter can be seen holding in his talons the capsule that contains the baby Metroid that appeared in Metroid II and Super Metroid. While a trophy of a Metroid does appear, no specific mention of the baby is present in the game.

In a scene depicting several moments from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the characters that can be seen are Navi, Saria, Malon, the younger version of Zelda, Darunia, Ruto, Rauru, and Impa.

A fight scene shows Fox having a dogfight with Wolf O'Donnell.

Nice of the Runaway Five appears in the scene of Ness using Teleport into Onett, where he and Lucky are knocked away by him.

In the following scene, several Pokémon who only appear in the opening movie can be seen. These include Oddish, Abra, Machop, Weepinbell, Slowbro, Drowzee, Krabby, Cubone, Hitmonlee, Rhydon, Electabuzz, Magmar, Pinsir, Sentret, Natu, Pineco, Gligar, Snubbull, Ursaring, Phanpy, and Elekid.

Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]

During Villager's trailer, one can see Rosie chatting with Isabelle and Margie sitting down next to a tree while reading a book.

In Mega Man's trailer, the silhouettes of several Robot Masters are displayed in his Variable Weapon System when using their respective weapons. The Robot Masters that can be seen are Metal Man, Crash Man, Wood Man, Hard Man, Sword Man, Slash Man, Spark Man, Guts Man, and Flame Man.

In Corrin's trailer, Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura try to convince Corrin to join Hoshido, whereas Xander, Camilla, Leo, and Elise try to convince him to join Nohr. Only Ryoma and Xander make any sort of in-game appearance, with both of them appearing as downloadable trophies exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version. Additionally, Elise makes an appearance in Corrin's poster.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

An Emperor Butterfly appears in Villager's hand-painted artwork in the full version of the cover artwork and the panoramic banner. The butterfly is not present on the retail cover art nor the digital icon, however.

Cesar, Genji, Nibbles, Ribbot, Sandy, and Tutu are featured in the Animal Crossing series poster that was a part of the Smash Bros. Countdown.

Feh from Fire Emblem Heroes appears in the Fire Emblem series poster that was a part of the Smash Bros. Countdown.

In Byleth's trailer, he is fighting Solon, who then engulfs him with dark energy and sends him into the void. Once Byleth escapes the void, Solon shows disbelief to what is happening, and once again when the female Byleth escapes the void with the three Hero's Relics.

In Min Min's first poster, Biff can be seen watching from the Mintendo Noodle House's window.

In Pyra and Mythra's trailer, Niall and Aegaeon are seen during a montage of Rex searching for Pyra.
