Piranha Plant quickly bites the grabbed opponent. It deals a fair amount of damage, being useful to add damage for an up throw kill, or simply just to add damage alongside forward or back throws to send the opponent offstage, giving a slightly better chance to gain a kill through edgeguards or ledgetrapping. It is also very useful in unstaling moves, especially due to the fact that Ptooie is often quite stale. Unstaling Ptooie with pummels allows Ptooie to regain its high damage output and kill power, and thus make it more threatening again, making pummeling even at up throw kill percents quite important for Piranha Plant, due to the importance of Ptooie's damage output and kill power. As with most pummels, it comes out on frame 1, and has a high [[hitlag]] multiplier.
