SmashArena.png

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 191: Pokémon Trainer vs. Olimar

Pokémon Trainer SSBB.jpg
Winner!!

Olimar SSBB.jpg
Two characters that avoid fighting alone and instead send their beloved minions against their local wildlife. Does the kid or the captain win out?

Votes for Pokémon Trainer

  1. Pokémon>Pikmin. And I just don't like how Olimar plays, even though Pokémon trainer is really annoying to play as too. DoctorPain99 14:52, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. Pokemon Trainer was the first character I used, and was my main before I switched. --99.249.196.42 16:28, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. I feel that every character should have at least one win, and I value Pokemon more than any other fictional universe.71.105.121.171 19:06, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. I'm pretty surprised that Olimar is doing this well.75.31.4.16 22:18, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. Maybe I'm just horrible at playing as Olimar, but the randomness of the Pikmin used kinda ruins him for me. That, and I like Pokemon a lot more. Takava (talk) 20:48, 16 June 2013 (EDT)
  6. Ivysaur's up smash kicks butt and all little olimar can do is throw tiny pikmin kirbyman 7:57 17 June 2013 (EDT)
  7. pokemon trainer allows for 3 characters in one! Moomoos86 10:53 17 June 2013
  8. I like Pokémon better. And Squirtle is my favorite character in Brawl (tied with Luigi)Tepig (talk) 13:27, 17 June 2013 (EDT)
  9. pokemon trainer is awewsome--75.34.23.14 19:06, 17 June 2013 (EDT)
  10. While I'm not too fond of Pokemon trainer, I just always feel mildly distraught when facing Olimar. Really... Meta Knight doesn't bother me, and Diddy Kong, not really. But Olimar? Freaking. Olimar. --HavocReaper48 22:53, 17 June 2013 (EDT)
  11. The sheer fact that this guy is from Pokémon is enough.174.20.238.87 16:30, 18 June 2013 (EDT)

  1. Three different strategies, and squirtle evolves into my favorite, all-time, fictional character, WARTORTLE!!!!!!! TheWartortlemaster —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.83.208.252 (talkcontribs) 8:10, 14 June 2013
  2. I hate Olimar's playstyle. I like the PT's three Pokémon, especially Squirtle. 84.92.35.200 11:33, 14 June 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Olimar

  1. His gimmick doesn't make him unviable or a skill trap, and he doesn't take up the space of three characters. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 01:25, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. The stamina problems for the Pokémon Trainer and the fact that it has three characters in one, too much. Also I'm probably voting for the underdog Olimar which is probably hard for me to play as but hey, at least he's easier to play than PT. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Engineer 09:28, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. I enjoy playing as both, but Olimar was once a main, so I don't have much of a choice. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumA transparent image of Swadloon for my sig. 09:45, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. Steve. Terrible is Ready for Summer 11:31, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. Olimar actually does shit to help his Pikmin, unlike Pokemon Trainer who just sits on the side yelling out orders. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 12:02, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  6. I'm quite sure that not very few, if any, Smasher wants to bother with P.T., so...67.166.229.4 17:57, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  7. "Didn't play with Olimar for a while, so I may be a little rusty...". Famous lines said before I fell on the battlefield, and ultimately lost (you know who you are). -- Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 22:32, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
  8. I am very sorry Pokemon Trainer, but I just noticed that during All-Star, it takes 3 Pokemon to defeat! So I'm sticking with Olimar Giratina720 (talk) 00:05, 15 June 2013 (EDT)
  9. O-Ri-Ma>Ma-Ri-O LightningBlueFrom Bulbapedia 18:42, 16 June 2013 (EDT)
  10. Gotta go with Captain Olimar here. While both are interesting and extremely unique fighters, I think Olimar is better suited for combat and just a bit more fun to play as. レ∆ㄅ User talk:Lasifer 05:03, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Time

  2. I've been playing With Anyone a lot lately. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 08:44, 2 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. In some ways you can stall in stock too, if its more than just one-on-one you can hide on the sides and let the other players finish each other off. If you're good enough at this, you can win the match with full lives and only one ko.71.51.149.139 08:37, 4 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. Time has always been my preferred variation. Plus, it's the more "correct" way to play the games. RickTommy 09:55, 7 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. Time is what I came through first in the Versus Menu, and thats the mode that I'll stay loyal to forever. Stock is a sometimes thing for me.-Kaizer24.185.135.102 21:18, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
