Ice Breaker is the 21st event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
The player controls a fighter of their choice and must win a 1 minute stock match against two CPU Ice Climbers on the Princess Peach's Castle stage. One of the CPU Ice Climbers' artificial intelligence is set at Level 2, while the other CPU Ice Climbers' artificial intelligence is set at Level 3.
When the match starts, the player's fighter will spawn on the leftmost green soft platform, while the first Ice Climbers will spawn on the left side of the center of the stage and the second Ice Climbers will spawn on the rightmost green soft platform. The player's fighter must KO both Nanas in 1 minute. If the player KOs either Popos, it will result in a loss. The Ice Climbers only jump and do not attack unless they are knocked offstage. Additionally, Nana will attack the player when Popo is being attacked.

Trivia
- This event match features a slight delay between the time that the player KO's Nana and when the game recognizes said KO, in order to check that the player has not simply KO'd both climbers of a pair; since both duos are configured so that Popo is in the lead, KO'ing Nana will not cause him to vanish.
