Stop is a CPU setting in Training mode, this mode is used to let the player test out moves and combos while the CPU will not attempt to dodge any attack, and is also the default mode that the CPU will start in when entering Training mode.

There are many actions a CPU would usually do that it will not do when set to Stop:

  • The CPU will not walk, run, or jump.
  • The CPU will not attack.
  • The CPU will move back towards the stage if sent off and will use their midair jumps to recover and if necessary their up special move.
  • The CPU won't shield, dodge, or roll.
  • The CPU will make an input to get off a revival platform.
  • The CPU won't DI out of multiple-hit attacks.
  • If on the ground after a tumble or a trip, a CPU will use a floor recovery.
  • The CPU won't use any inputs to escape from a grab, being frozen, or when buried.
  • A CPU will always use a ledge jump when on on the ledge.
    • If the CPU is a character that doesn't naturally move very far horizontally when edge jumping (e.g. Wario), the CPU will not drift any further forwards and may end up simply grabbing the edge again, cycling until it eventually either double jumps or uses a special move to get back on the stage.
  • On the WarioWare, Inc. stage, the CPU will participate in microgames, even if the setting is set to stop.
