For the heck of it, I decided to make rosters for a future Smash game and a future Smash-style fighting game.
SSB4
My Roster (mainly for fun; updated from my contest roster to include at least one newcomer for each universe, excluding Game & Watch and Robot which I know nothing about):
Apparently I really like the two-in-one characters.
My original revision of this roster replaced Squall with the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei, a Super Famicom game, with palette swaps and abilities used by the protagonists from other games in the series. I scrapped this idea because Squall would probably be more accepted and Megami Tensei is already getting a fighting game anyway.
I also thought about replacing Bowser Jr. with Rosalina as a way to reflect one of the system’s predecessor's great games. But then I thought, Rosalina is probably the character I would least want in a fighting game, even though she could probably hold her own. Racing, sure; but fighting, no. Instead, as a way of representing Super Mario Galaxy, one of Bowser Jr.'s Final Smashes could be flying around in the ship he uses the second time you encounter him.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
Even though I've yet to buy a PS3, I am looking forward to this game. So why not make my own roster?
Note: I'm including all currently confirmed characters (whether I think they belong or not).
I guess I'm assuming the random space is off to the right somewhere...
15 out of the 32 characters are third-party. Well, I knew I was bound to be a little off, but almost half? Wait! I remember playing Crash Bandicoot as a kid and hearing voice-acted Cortex say "Sony Computer Entertainment America presents..." What happened? Or is this just an example of my main source for this, Wikipedia, being, well, Wikipedia?
Four characters who were cut in an attempt to not overuse third-parties: Gex, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, The Prince, and Scott Pilgrim.
Other possible characters who I decided against including: Sackboy, Jaster Rogue, and Dormin.
Deciding a "Mr. PlayStation" (A.K.A. the guy in the top left corner). For this, I looked at whether the character was represented on all three main consoles and how well the games were received (admittedly I did no direct research on the latter point). I felt Snake met both requirements. The runners up were Crash, Spyro, and Cloud, each missing one of these points. Curiously, all four of these characters are third-pa-SHOT!
