A semi-spike move or pseudo-spike is an attack which sends the opponent downward yet mostly horizontally, thusly resulting in limited Directional Influence options for the target - DI'ing them correctly will only alter the angle just slightly and shorten the sendoff angle. This is distinct from a spike, which sends the enemy straight down.
Moves that are semi-spikes include (but are not limited to):
- Marth's forward aerial
- Sheik's forward aerial
- Sheik's Final Smash
- Captain Falcon's forward aerial (though it's very noticable when you DI this one)
- Link's Up B attack after it's initial hitbox (NTSC only)
- Peach's forward smash (Golf Club and Tennis Racket)
- Ganondorf's up aerial (the end of its animation)
- Captain Falcon's up aerial (the end of its animation)
- Pikachu's up aerial (while tail is directly or near directly above him) (also known as the tail-whip)
- Wario-Man's down tilt.
- Pikachu's Down-Smash (if opponent DI's out of the attack before the final hit)
- Sonic's Up- Smash (if Sonic hits opponent at end of stage [only if all hits connect])
- Jigglypuff's Down-Smash
- Mr. Game & Watch's neutral B at close range (known as a Pan-spike)
- Mr. Game and Watch's down smash at close range
- The tip of Marth's down tilt and the sourspot of his up smash.
- Fox's Shine
- Bowser's down aerial, using the hitbox when he hits the ground
- Meta Knight's down aerial
- Lucas'
- ...down smash if foe is in front. Most powerful near the front and bottom tips of the smash.
- ...PSI Magnet attack if released near the tip.
- ...PK Thunder 2 if drilled angled downwards and to the side.
- ...third hit of neutral A combo occasionally.
- ...spiking a foe with bair if foe is on the ground.
- Fox and Falco's down smash.
- Zelda's down smash.
- Hitting someone with a thrown Star Rod
- Getting hit while holding someone near the edge will semi-spike the person begin held at higher percentages.
