Attributes[edit]

Moveset[edit]

Move Name Damage Description
Neutral attack A three-part attack: first is a horizontal swipe, then a vertical swipe, and finally a repeating, indefinite hammer spin in the fashion of a drill.
Forward tilt Extends his hammer forward and spins it.
Up tilt Sets his hammer on the ground momentarily and jumps a little upwards, headbutting.
Down tilt King Dedede extends one of his feet and sweeps the ground with it.
Dash attack Trips and belly slides forward.
Forward smash Swings his hammer over his head at the ground in front of him.
Up smash Pulls his hammer back then swings it vertically over his head.
Down smash Pulls back the hammer and then swings it horizontally along the ground.
Neutral aerial Sticks his legs back and arms out, attacking with his large belly.
Forward aerial Swings hammer upwards in front of himself.
Back aerial Sticks his foot out behind him, kicking with it.
Up aerial Sticks his hammer above him and spins it.
Down aerial Similar to his up aerial, but spins his hammer below him.
Grab
Pummel Lays his hammer on the ground and headbutts the opponent.
Forward throw Hits opponent forward with his hammer.
Back throw Hits opponent with his hammer behind himself.
Up throw Hits opponent upward by sticking both his hands upward.
Down throw Slams opponent on ground and sits on top of them.
Floor attack (front) Gets up and kicks both sides.
Floor attack (back) Gets up and kicks both sides.
Edge attack (fast) Pulls himself up slightly, then heaves himself onto the stage while kicking in front of him.
Edge attack (slow) Pulls himself slowly onto the stage, then quickly swings his hammer over his head in front of him.
Neutral special Inhale Inhales the opponent inside Dedede's stomach, and does damage upon spitting them out. Does collateral damage to anybody hit by the character being spit out, depending on that character's weight.
Side special Gordo Throw Hits a bouncing Gordo with his hammer. Gordo damage decreases the longer it’s out. Its trajectory can be angled upward, forward, or downward, which can be used for mindgames.
Up special Super Dedede Jump Dedede does a big leap upward and then rockets back down to the ground with a devastating stomp that produces stars on both sides of himself. The move can be cancelled partway by pressing down.
Down special Hammer Flip Raises his hammer above his head, setting it aflame as he charges it. The longer the move is held, the more damage, knockback, and directional boost to Dedede occurs. However, Dedede starts taking 1% damage if the move is held past maximum charge, up until he reaches 150% damage.

Trophies[edit]

Like Tails, King Dedede's trophies are automatically obtained upon downloading v1.0 and onwards. These trophies are added in addition to King Dedede's trophy from Melee.

Classic Mode trophy
King Dedede
This hardy king rules a legion of Waddle Dees and other critters across Dream Land. Despite his apparent royal status, he can't seem to have enough stuff. Don't worry: whether it's tasty food or the sacred Star Rod, he usually returns what he's taken. There's heavy debate in Dream Land about whether or not Dedede is a penguin...
Kirby's Dream Land (8/92)
Adventure Mode SMASH trophy
King Dedede SMASH
As Kirby's "arch frenemy", King Dedede imitates a few of Kirby's trademark moves. When Dedede inhales, he can't copy abilities, but he can spit out opponents much farther away. Farther than Kirby can! He also has an endless supply of Gordos he can lob in three different directions, making them the perfect soldiers to pierce incoming foes.
B: Inhale
Smash B: Gordo Throw
All-Star Mode SMASH trophy
King Dedede SMASH
Dedede is among the heaviest fighters in Super Smash Bros. Melee and can deal quite a wallop. With a fully charged Hammer Flip, one fiery swing can K.O. just about any opponent! His Super Dedede Jump gives him a great vertical boost with a punishing fall. Good luck taking on the King of Dream Land!
Up & B: Super Dedede Jump
Down & B: Hammer Flip

Trivia[edit]

  • Unlike in official Smash games, King Dedede can still appear in the background of Dream Land even while King Dedede is fighting.
  • King Dedede's down special in The Akaneia Build shares its name with Kirby's side special from Super Smash Bros. 4 and onwards.
