The Creature (フランクシュタイン, Frankenstein) and the Flea Man (のみ男, Flea Man) are recurring antagonists in the Castlevania series. The Creature is based on Frankenstein's monster from the seminal gothic horror novel Frankenstein.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Creature and the Flea Man appear as background characters in Dracula's Castle. They do not seem to interact with the fighters.
Origin
The Creature is naturally derived from the classic horror monster, created by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley in her 1818 novel Frankenstein: or, the Modern Prometheus, and often erroneously referred to as Frankenstein (even being called such in the Japanese version of Ultimate). The Creature is in fact Victor Frankenstein's creation, created in a process that is not detailed in the novel (hinted to be chemical or alchemical in nature). The Creature's ubiquitous appearance of a tall, strong, flat-top-headed humanoid is modeled after Boris Karloff's portrayal of Frankenstein's Monster in the 1931 film Frankenstein. This film, and many after it, portray the Creature's creation as involving the robbing of graves for body parts, which are then assembled into one body that is given life by electricity.
The Flea Man is a recurring enemy in the Castlevania series, also known as Hunchbacks. Flea Men hop about erratically, making approach difficult. They are often dropped on the player by airborne enemies. An invincible Flea Man named Igor accompanies the creature as the boss of the fourth level of the original Castlevania. Igor is a stock character in horror films, typically depicted as a hunchbacked servant of Frankenstein or Dracula, although the prototypical "Igor" from the 1931 film was named Fritz (portrayed by Dwight Frye). The actual "Ygor" character (portrayed by Béla Lugosi) first appeared in the 1939 film Son of Frankenstein as a blacksmith with a broken neck from a failed hanging.
