How the heck is this a stage suitable for competive play? I'll never get what runs through people's heads.

While I'm not an expert, I think the key here is that nothing is random. Each float appears at a predictable time in a predictable place. The movement also makes it much more difficult to do things like camp, but unlike other scrolling stages, you aren't always on the move. In addition, there are no (damaging) hazards. Why does this page say that it is banned in tournament play but it is listed as counter pick in "Tournament_legal_(SSBM)" and is not listed on the banned stage page, someone please fix this.

Origin

While I can't honestly say that it's not speculation, I also think it should stay. The first reason is as Miles said, "There's no other thing that could have even inspired it" (considering that we can't agree if it was inspired by the anime OR the parade). Even I was speculative when I first saw the video, but I figured it was the closest thing that could've inspired the stage. Also, nothing like this has happened in the games, so that doesn't really give us much to look at when trying to figure out where it came from. Unknown the Hedgehog 02:22, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

It is speculation, which does not belong on the Wiki in any way, shape, or form. I find it quite ridiculous to believe that the Macy parade influenced Poke Floats. You know, the idea of giant balloons was conjured before the Macy parade came into existence and it is not the only thing that has giant balloons. Can't you guys accept the fact that this stage is an original creation created for Melee? Not every damn thing in Smash Bros. has to be influenced from something else, much less some IRL parade. The Macy's Parade is quite famous, and it's unlikely that it escaped Nintendo's notice that it was a great publicity draw for Pokemon (which were already popular anyway). Why not base a stage off of it? (Also, while not everything in Smash has a source, the vast majority do.) Miles (talk) 02:58, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I got that wrong then. Though you do realize that Japan released the game 4 days before Thanksgiving. It is impossible for Nintendo to copy off that when it wasn't even shown. Again, why would they base a stage off some IRL event that is not related to any Nintendo game? As said before, the ideas of giant balloons been around much longer than the Macy parade and there are other parades in the world that have giant balloons. But the real issue is that this is speculation. It can't be proven and therefore, it doesn't belong in the article. What we have for the origin section now is good enough. PS1 and/or PS2?

As I recall, Pokémon Stadium 1 was a Generation I game and therefore could not have Unown, Sudowoodo, or other Gen II Pokés in it. So are these models all from Pokémon Stadium 2, or are some from 1 and some from 2? Did they even make any model changes between the two games? Toomai Glittershine 02:36, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Memes as trivia

This is maybe a rather pedantic point to care about, but in general I had been operating on the principle that memes really are not worth noting unless they make a serious impact beyond the Smash community (e.g. stuff like Falcon Punch). Pages for the Poke Float Pokemon

Shouldn’t the 8 Pokémon that appear as stage elements on Poke Floats (Psyduck, Slowpoke, Porygon, Wooper, Sudowoodo, Seel, Lickitung, and Geodude) get their own pages on the wiki? Although they don’t appear from Pokeballs like the other 8 or a fighter like Squirtle, they are moving platforms that make up the stage itself, meaning they are not background characters. The King of Red Lions is a stage element as a platform and is affected by the Stage Hazard Switch, same goes for the Bulborb. Plus you’ll die if you stay on any of them for too long. They count as hazards because of that, not to mention the Hazard switch for the latter two. I can’t see a reason why the Pokémon on Poke Floats wouldn’t be able to receive to receive their own pages. 172.58.174.162 15:21, February 14, 2020 (EST)
