Super Mario Sunshine (スーパーマリオサンシャイン, Sūpā Mario Sanshain) is a platform game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development and published by Nintendo for the GameCube. It was the first game on the GameCube to star Mario. Similar to Mario 64, you attempt to collect shines by reaching areas or completing certain tasks (such as defeating a boss) with the help of your goop-cleaning, enemy-hurting FLUUD. Once you completed the Shadow Mario chase in every world, Delfino Plaza was flooded and you could enter corona mountain.

Storyline

Mario and Princess Peach decide to take a vacation to beautiful Isle Delfino. However, when they land, a imposter of Mario has dirtied the island and chased away all the Shines. Mario get blamed and must clean the island and return the Shines. The impostor turns out to be Bowser Jr. in disguise.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Delfino Plaza, the main "hub world" of Super Mario Sunshine, is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and F.L.U.D.D., which was first featured in this game, replaces Mario's previous Down B, the Mario Tornado. Also, there is a sticker of a Pianta, a creature featured in the game.

Trivia

  • It was rumored (and later proven to be false) that if a player had Super Mario Sunshine data on the same memory card as his or her Super Smash Bros. Melee data, an extra trophy could be unlocked. This rumor may have originated from the fact that having a Pikmin save earned the player a Captain Olimar (trophy). The trophy in question happens to be a Mario and Yoshi trophy. This rumour is false and perhaps physically impossible since this game was released after Melee was. However, the rumor was so well known, that Prima's Official SMS Guide included this and said it was true (although it's possible that the game was slightly revisioned for this to change).
