Star Bits (スターピース, Star Piece) is Rosalina & Luma's side special move in SSB4.

Overview

When this move is used, Rosalina's Luma will quickly fire out three Star Bits, which serves as a mid-range attack. Despite the their appearance, the Star Bits are not projectiles, but rather disjointed hitboxes; this makes the attack immune to reflection, absorption, and Pocketing. If Rosalina has no Luma in play, Rosalina will only wave her wand to no effect.

Customization

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the known variations:

1. Star Bits 2. Floaty Star Bit 3. Shooting Star Bit

"Command Luma to fire three Star Bits forward. Works at any range." "Luma fires one slower Star Bit that doesn't go far but is good at getting in the way." "Luma fires a single, high-powered Star Bit in a straight line. Travels far."
  1. Star Bits: Default.
  2. Floaty Star Bit: Fires a large Star Bit that moves slow and deals multiple hits.
  3. Shooting Star Bit: Shoots a single, more powerful Star Bit that travels far.

Unlike the default version, both variations are proper projectiles that can be reflected and absorbed.

Description from the 3DS Version's Foldout

"Luma shoots off stardust, even if far away from Rosalina."

Origin

Several star bits in Super Mario Galaxy.

Star Bits are a common collectible item that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. They can appear when Mario defeats an enemy with his Star Spin or hits a ? Block, and may also be found in various places in the levels themselves. They can even, though rarely, fall from the sky. Star Bits can be fired at enemies using the B button to temporarily stun them. They are also used as a sort of currency to feed Hungry Lumas, special Lumas who demanded to eat large amounts of Star Bits, upon which they would transform into a new planet or galaxy for Mario to traverse, or give him a 1-Up or health-increasing mushroom.
