Star Bits (スターピース, Star Piece) is Rosalina & Luma's side special move in Super Smash Bros. 4.
Overview
When this move is used, Rosalina's Luma will quickly fire out three Star Bits, which serves as a mid-range attack. Despite their appearance, the Star Bits are not projectiles, but rather disjointed hitboxes; this makes the attack immune to reflection, absorption, and Villager's Pocket. This move only makes use of Luma, Rosalina simply waves her wand when performing it. As a result, this move will not properly work if Luma is not directly next to Rosalina or if Luma has been KO-ed.
Customization
Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:
1. Star Bits | 2. Floaty Star Bit | 3. Shooting Star Bit |
---|---|---|
"Command Luma to fire three Star Bits forward. Works at any range." | "Luma fires one slower Star Bit that doesn't go far but is good at getting in the way." | "Luma fires a single, high-powered Star Bit in a straight line. Travels far." |
- Star Bits: Default.
- Floaty Star Bit: Fires a large Star Bit that moves slow and deals multiple hits.
- Shooting Star Bit: Shoots a single, more powerful Star Bit that travels far.
Unlike the default version, both variations are proper projectiles that can be reflected and absorbed.
Origin
Star Bits are a common collectible item that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. They can appear when Mario defeats an enemy with his Star Spin or hits a ? Block, and are also found in various places in the levels themselves. They can even, though rarely, fall from the sky. Star Bits can be fired at enemies using the B button to temporarily stun them. Doing this to Lumas, however, will feed the Star Bits to them, as they consider them a delicacy.
This is especially true for Hungry Lumas, a unique type of Lumas who demand to eat substantial amounts of Star Bits, upon which they transform into a new planet or galaxy for Mario to traverse, or give him a 1-Up or Life Mushroom.
