Article on Bulbapedia Agility (move)

Agility is Pichu's up special move. When performed, Pichu will make a quick teleport-like action in any direction. Inputting another direction during this first teleport allows Pichu to immediately perform a second teleport upon finishing the first. Unlike Pikachu's Quick Attack, the move does not deal any damage. Pichu will also be dealt 1% damage for the first jump, and another 3% if it uses the second one. Agility is very similar to Pikachu's quick attack from Super Smash Bros., which also does no damage.

Origins

Agility in Generation IV Pokémon games.

In the Pokémon games, Agility is a non-damaging move introduced in Generation I. It increases a Pokémon's Speed by 2 stages, and can be stacked up to 3 times (from double to triple and finally quadruple its original value). Competitive battlers usually work their Pokémon's speed so that after one Agility, the user is faster than most other Pokémon, ensuring that they go first. Despite not being an electric move, Pichu still takes damage when using it in Melee.

Other uses

Pichu's up special has 1 frame of lag if the player hits the ground correctly, making it the most lagless move in Melee, but if the player messes up, he or she will have 14 frames of lag. The player can quickly jump and use the up special and then input another attack. For reference, look here or here for more details and tricks.

Trivia

  • Agility and Teleport are the only attacks in Melee to have no direct effect on opponents.
  • In the Pokémon RPG's, Agility is a Psychic-type attack; In the games, it states that Pichu can only hurt itself by using Electric-type attacks. The same inconsistency goes with Skull Bash.
  • In the Pokémon games, Pichu cannot legitimately learn Agility. This trait is shared with Skull Bash.
