Talk:Super Jump Punch

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

I noticed that Mario and Dr. Mario Super Jump Puch is really uselful vs groups of enemy with reduced knockback resistance (Kirby and Yoshi team from SSBM Adventure Mode, for example). Should we add it ? Paratroopafan (talk) 23:49, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Say it can be very useful against...--Megatron1 (talk) 23:53, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Same move name, same concept, different properties, oppose Serpent SKSig.png King 19:51, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Oppose as well, they're not really that distinct from each other, and if the bros.' Fireballs are both on one page, I see no reason to split this one. Xamad (talk) 20:00, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Obligatory Agreeing opposition per Serpent. Disaster Flare Disaster Flare signature image.png (talk) 20:02, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

The Blasters got split, though: how are these different? (Mario's and Dr Mario's share customs and are much more similar in Melee, though.) -Menshay (talk) 20:09, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Blasters between Fox/Falco are not the same concept (one's rapid fire with 0 KB, the other is a normal slow laser) Serpent SKSig.png King 20:11, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Order of magnitude of similarity is quite high here. Keep them together. Miles (talk) 21:21, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Agree: oppose per everyone else. PenroPenroDarkPitHead.png PenroZSSHead.png 21:54, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Split 2[edit]

I'll reiterate what SK said three years ago: "same move name, same concept, different mechanics." It's the same with the Blaster pages, which are currently being proposed to be merged together. Aidan, the Springing Rurouni 14:30, April 12, 2019 (EDT)

Although I'd rather Super Jump Punch to stay merged, I think we should wait until after a decision is reached for the Star Fox Blasters & Reflectors as they have the same concept for merging & splitting as this page, so whatever it ends up being for the others, can be applied for this page as well. Wolff (talk) 15:58, April 23, 2019 (EDT)
If I'm being honest, I think Luigi's version of the move should be split. It's so radically different to Mario and Dr. Mario's versions that it's more-or-less its own move. Mario's and Dr. Mario's are similar enough to stay on the same page. DryKirby64 (talk) 19:10, April 30, 2019 (EDT)
Dr. Mario’s is arguable. Luigi’s should definitely be split, as it works in a completely different fashion. Lou Cena (talk) 12:06, May 2, 2019 (EDT)
To be honest, they are named the same, so isn't separating them just making unnecessary work? I know the wiki is not "official", but I feel like we are just making more unnecessary work for ourselves. Does really matter if its separated? Is it not easier to find said move when going to the page of said move? 17:34, May 2, 2019 (EDT)

Support splitting on all three moves per the tag. Luigi's especially should not have been merged to begin with. John John3637881 Signature.png HUAH! 01:06, May 9, 2019 (EDT)

Considering we keep repeating the same information to the point that neither side is currently able to convince other, I suggest that those of us who have already stated our opinions (including myself) should wait until more people join the discussion. Perhaps then, more options will come up from new opinions. Wolff (talk) 18:49, May 12, 2019 (EDT)

Agreed. And, if all else fails, we could always settle this with a battle to the death. (Dun dun dun) Jokes aside, I might take the split message down for the time being, seeing as how there's a page where everybody is discussing the concept of which moves should and shouldn't be split. Of course, if I'm allowed to. Crazy456Rhino (talk) 15:18, May 16, 2019 (EDT)

It was decided that this move should not split. Wolff (talk) 16:12, June 1, 2019 (EDT)

I re-read that forum, and it said that if two out of three match, discuss it first. Super Jump Punch shares its name and general concept across each character, but vastly differs between each variant. It’s not the best idea to say we’ve come to a consensus yet. Lou Cena (talk) 17:08, June 1, 2019 (EDT)
I had asked if Super Jump Punch was among the moves that did not fit the criteria for case-by-case, and thought I was told along the lines of "yes, it does not". Regardless, I do not think that there's enough to split the move. Wolff (talk) 00:04, June 2, 2019 (EDT)
