Restructuring the page[edit]

Should this page be restructured to have bullet points like in Nintendo Direct, allowing to cover more comprehensively the various points explained in the presentation? --Rdrfc (talk) 11:51, March 29, 2020 (EDT)

What to do with Joker's presentation[edit]

In my draft about this page's rewrite I also included a section about Joker's presentation, which is technically not part of the Mr. Sakurai Presents series. I held off adding it to mainspace because I think we should have a brief on wiki discussion about it before. I think it fits best on this page because it is not a direct (due to not have been aired live), it is a presentation about a Fighter Pass character and it follows most of the same format, aside from Sakurai not being there. What do you guys think? --Rdrfc (talk) 11:30, June 21, 2020 (EDT)

Gonna go ahead and copy the statement I made on the Discord: "Ehh, I don't think a discussion would really be necessary here. The presentation isn't explicitly a Nintendo Direct or a Sakurai Presents, but it definitely leads way more into Sakurai Presents." For that reason, I support including the Joker presentation. I was against putting Joker here at the start, but since there isn't any other place to put it I believe this can stay. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 11:36, June 21, 2020 (EDT)
Support per above. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 12:07, June 21, 2020 (EDT)
Support per Cookies' statement above. Plus, I support including the little section you left in the draft because I feel that it's a nice comment on Joker's inclusion in this list. I say go for it. Aidan, the Rurouni 13:19, June 21, 2020 (EDT)

I think I might know why Altair and Vault Boy didn't use their universes' names in the NA presentations.[edit]

I imagine it has to do with the ESRB. Both Assassin's Creed and Fallout are M-rated series, and though other M-rated franchises have made it into Smash before, it's been as playable or other significant representation where it's sort of hard to not acknowledge the universes they came from (and they've been "integrated" enough in the game that they could reasonably claim to the ratings board that their depiction is solely about Smash). For the Mii costumes, the only thing we're seeing is a costume based on a single character and nothing else about the series, so it may be easier to sweep the actual franchise they're from under the rug so that they don't have to change the "rated E10+" splash at the beginning of the presentation to "rated E10+ to M" by acknowledging those series. Just a theory, but I'm fairly confident that I'm right on the money as to why this is happening (because it certainly can't be copyright issues, the presentation where Altair was shown off had Rabbids shown as the very next costume without any issue, and both of those IPs are owned by Ubisoft). Would likely not be a copyright issue, since then they would likely not even bring them in as mii costumes. But it is an interesting point about the rating. In Europe, Fallout is rated PEGI 16-18 (depending on game) and Assassin's Creed is rated PEGI 18. Yet the presentation featuring these games does include the full logo and are still rated PEGI 12. See videos here: Fallout Vault Boy, Assassin's Creen Altaïr.
But there are cases where ESRB are stricter. Such as, if a game code contains content that is inaccessible through normal means and only accessible through hacking, that content needs to still be taken into consideration for the rating. PEGI does not. So ESRB might require a trailer or presentation to be rated at least as high as the highest rated game in it, even if it's just mentioned, while PEGI is likely not caring about that.
This is all speculations, but fun to go over. Liggliluff (talk) 17:11, June 23, 2021 (EDT)
