Merge[edit]

I was about to tag this for merge. I see no point why we need an article for the cancellation of TBH when it can be covered in the main article instead. Omegɑ Toɑd For my signature. 17:46, December 8, 2020 (EST)

Support so long as we keep this the standard moving forward. Señor Mexicano (talk) 18:44, December 8, 2020 (EST)
Neutral. To echo a point made over here, historically, we have deleted pages for tournaments that got cancelled, and given that the cancellation of the tournament is the main topic on both pages, it should stand to reason that it get covered here, not there; however, if it were to become standard that tournament pages stay up regardless of cancellation, then I am not opposed to that, and would like this page to be merged with the tournament page. Support I have to say about how The Big House Online works. If making cancellation of a tournament and literally also having another tournament, this just doesn't work well. I mean in EVO 2013 it has information on how Nintendo was going to cancel it. This alone itself makes sense as we should really merge both articles. As said, if a topic that has gone viral would make a scene with an article we created earlier, of course, we would put it in there, examples like how there ware controversies in tournaments like EVO 2018 as a result. Support, or honestly just make the Big House Online page this. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 18:16, February 20, 2021 (EST)

Oppose, thinking about this in hindsight, keeping up articles for canceled tournaments is a pretty bad precedent. This would mean we'd have a ton of articles with the only info being "x tournament was set to be held on y dates, but was canceled on z date". The events that conspired following the cancellation of The Big House Online expanded beyond the scope of just the tournament:

  • A movement was started through social media that went on for weeks and while it has died down by now, many notable figures within the community still often sport the "FreeMelee" or "SaveSmash" tags.
  • Two charity events raised a grand total of $317,800 from the community in response to this movement.
  • Many community members spoke up about the bad history between the scene and Nintendo including the censorship of Project M.
  • An entire official Splatoon 2 tournament was gutted of it's players which led the way for one of the most successful grassroots Splatoon 2 events ever.

With all this in mind, we should be deleting the tournament page and keeping this one up. Señor Mexicano (talk) 12:55, March 9, 2021 (EST)

I would agree, though the tourney page should just be redirected to here if that's the case. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 13:54, April 14, 2022 (EDT)

Oppose: I agree with Mexicano that we shouldn't be having pages for tournaments that never actually happened, and when their cancellation is a notable event in itself, the information is better presented in a page like this. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 18:56, April 14, 2022 (EDT)

We don't give pages for cancelled tournaments, and I'm not convinced the outcry makes this the exception. Honestly, I wouldn't be that opposed to just renaming and retooling the page to be more about "SaveSmash" and not the event that triggered it. - EndGenuity (talk) 10:31, June 21, 2022 (EDT)

Oppose: After thinking about this for quite some time, I've decided that it's not really a great idea to keep tournaments that have been straight up canceled. Because tournaments that have been canceled are guaranteed deleted (If I'm sure about that). Another reason gives the fact that this article already gives out a pinpoint view of the cancellation itself, while the tournament article... it just gives information about a tournament (placements, etc.), which doesn't give much of an explanation beyond how the tournament was seen being canceled. Either way, tournaments that haven't happened because of cancellation should be deleted and I would surely keep this and not merge. Howplayz 00:39, August 18, 2022 (EDT)

Seeing as some are getting the wrong idea because of the poor wording from me of the past, the intention was to have only one page about TBHO instead of two pages containing almost identical information. It wasn't meant to have the cancellation page deleted, and truthfully having it displayed on the cancellation page is the better option. For my signature. Omega Toad, the Toad Warrior. Rename[edit]

Support: Now that the articles are merged, the title of this article implies that a main The Big House Online article still exists. Renaming this one will fix that issue and allow us to expand the article if we want to.

This article is explicitly about the cancellation of The Big House Online and the events surrounding the cancellation, it is not an article for The Big House Online, which is why it is under this name in the first place. This rename proposal is invalid. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 03:55, July 10, 2023 (EDT)
