Hello, my name is John. I knew about Smash back in 2009, but it was only until the spring of 2014 when my friends really got me into it. Credit goes to Snake for getting me to play. If it weren't for his presence in Brawl, I probably wouldn't be writing this page. Back then, I thought Nintendo made dumb games for kids and stuff (Don't worry, I've changed my mind!). Naturally, Snake getting cut from SSB4 has disappointed me to no end, but luckily, I've warmed up to the other characters, and have since enjoyed playing games such as Fire Emblem and EarthBound. Now for things I dislike. I very much hate playing with Items. I've compared them to this situation: You're playing chess with a friend, and then someone slams their hand down on the board as hard as they can. Yes, I think items are annoying, distracting, disruptive, cheap, and broken. That may be redundant. Not surprisingly, I highly dislike stages like Hanenbow or 75m. To me, the focus is more on surviving the stage than outplaying your opponent. I'd rather lose a fair fight than win one where I got luckier. I mean, if you prefer playing with items on "banned" stages, that's fine, but I'll just play the way I like to.

My opinions on the Smash games I've played

Melee

I haven't played Melee in years, but I've seen lots of cool tournament videos for it. If I played it again, I would enjoy it, considering it was the basis for Project M. If anyone would rather play Melee than Project M, I would understand, but I would rather play PM because it has the same great gameplay and more content.

Brawl

I don't dislike Brawl, especially since it was my first Smash game I was really into, but nowadays, I think it is too slow. That said, I don't think it is fair to compare Brawl to Melee, considering how radically different both games are. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I can respect the chess like nature of competitive Brawl matches, and the skill needed to pull off some of the advanced techniques, but I dislike the game's campy nature and the lack of character balance. If I'm going to play a Smash game nowadays, I would rather play one other than Brawl.

Project M

Project M is definitely my favorite Smash game to play. I used to dislike it, but thanks to me doing fairly well with Zelda in the mod, I got into it. After a while, I mained Snake, just like I used to in Brawl. When 3.5 came around, I disliked the changes made to Snake, and eventually started maining Ness. I personally think I'm better with PM Ness than any other character in any Smash game. Project M got even better when my friend told me how to replace the music files. I have put in many EarthBound/Mother songs and many Ace Combat songs, among other things. My personal favorite is Agnus Dei from Ace Combat 4, which I put on Final Destination. You should listen to it sometime. I just want to know how to change song names. If anyone knows how to do that, I would be thankful!

Smash 4

SSB4 is okay, but I have lots of complaints about it. I like the game's character balance, and the addition of Omega Mode stages is great. However, I think "No hazards" would be a better thing to have. Now the things I dislike:

  • I dislike the new ledge grabbing physics. It has become impossible to edgehog, which I thought was a great thing.
  • I dislike the "black lightning" that comes when you've been hit with the mortal blow, since it is very inconsistent. Sometimes, you die after black lightning, sometimes you don't.
  • I dislike the Smash 4 main theme. I got sick of it in like, a week, and now it drives me crazy every time I hear it.
  • Fox's and Ness' new voices are terrible. Also, I highly resent Ness' new appearance. He looks creepy imo.
  • Some new characters. I don't think Palutena, Dark Pit, and Wii Fit Trainer make good Smash characters. Little Mac and Villager deserve to be in the game, but their movesets have been botched so that it's very easy to win games using n00bish tactics, like Side-B spamming. Little Mac's "insta-KO" thing was a horrible idea.

Characters that should be playable

  • Wolf. Can't let you cut that, Sakurai!
  • Slippy. This one is mostly a joke. He could either have a unique moveset or just be a Fox clone, but either way, it would be fun to beat him up in training mode.
  • Blaziken. Blaziken is famous enough to deserve to be in Smash, it would represent Pokémon Gen 3, and it could be an incredibly easy clone of Captain Falcon.
  • Lyn. The main character of the first Fire Emblem game released internationally. She has the potential to have a very unique moveset. I can imagine a Mani Katti barrage as her Final Smash.
  • King K. Rool. Never played a game with him in it, but seriously, imagine all the fun you would have beating your friends with a big fat alligator king!
  • Snake. I understand why he was cut, but I don't like that he was at all. In fact, his getting cut was probably my least favorite thing in Smash history.
  • Optimus Prime. Yes, the chance of him being in Smash is pretty much impossible. But if I'm correct, Transformers is popular in Japan, so you never know. One condition though: He has to have his Generation 1 design. Generation 1 is the best Transformers series.
  • Shrek.
