Fox or Falco's short hop laser (also known as short hop blaster, respectively abbreviated "shl" and "shb") is a technique performed by using their B attack after a short hop, then fast-falling. For Falco, this technique is used to disrupt his opponents' movements and slow their approach and also to cancel the stop shooting lag when he lands making it more reliable than using it in the ground. For Fox, this technique is used to inflict small amounts of damage (since Fox's lasers don't have any stun) and to camp.

As with any neutral B attack, Fox/Falco players can tap backwards on the control stick, release it and tap B to fire off a laser behind them and turn around while in the air. This is widely used as a means of tacking on damage while retreating with dashes, and is essential for effective camping with lasers.

Wolf can also perform this, albeit this is helpful only to get across stages without having too much trouble.

Short hop double laser

The short hop double laser (also known as short hop double blaster, respectively abbreviated "shdl" and "shdb") can be done with Fox and with Falco (in Brawl). It is the same as the short hop laser, but Fox fires two lasers instead of one. One does not fast fall when performing this technique. In SSB, Fox can still perform this technique but his lasers do stun the opponent.

Short Hop Triple Laser

This technique can be performed with Kirby in both SSB and Melee and with Fox in Brawl. Three lasers are shot in one short hop.
