Counter (カウンター, Counter) is Palutena's down special move.
Overview
When Palutena uses this move, she uses her shield to catch an opponent's attack. Once an attack connects, the shield will defend Palutena while she forcefully thrusts her staff out, retaliating against her attacker. Upon guarding, Palutena's shield emits a blue ring of light and a blue representation of a heartbeat appears behind her, much like other counterattacks in Smash 4. It deals 1.3x the damage of countered attacks, 10% minimum. It will one-hit KO anyone, if she managed to counter an attack that deals at least 40% damage.
Customization
Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

Origin
Counter is a stat-based power that Pit or a fighter can wield in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Using that power, the user will be under its effect temporarily. During the time the power is active, any attack that lands will be retaliated. This power also prevents knockback.
