There's something about Super Smash Bros. 4 I'd like some opinions on. What should L3 and R3 (clicking the control sticks) do on a Wii U GamePad/Pro Controller, if anything? I was thinking it could charge a smash attack when held, though there'd need to be some kind of universal charging animation that could turn into any smash attack. The options I can think of would be:

  • Charges a smash attack.
  • Charges a running boost, allowing characters to dash at a high speed after it is held
  • Starting a dash attack, possibly even from a standstill.
  • Introduce a neutral tilt, which hits both sides, like the down smash.
  • Introduce a neutral smash.
  • Just allow other commands like grab to be mapped to it.
  • Does nothing.

Any thoughts? If the Wii Remote + Nunchuk and Classic Controller are to return, I imagine some of those options would be removed for the sakes of fairness. Opinions can be placed on this userpage, or its talk page. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumA transparent image of Swadloon for my sig. 18:07, 5 April 2013 (EDT)

My thoughts: Nintendo was moronic to blindly follow the other two companies with this "feature". It's not even borderline pointless. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Xanthic 18:57, 5 April 2013 (EDT)

What Toomai said. I'm hoping they do nothing. DoctorPain99DP99Majora.png 19:05, 5 April 2013 (EDT)
I think they should just make it a dummy feature, and you can configure it to whatever attack you want in the Controls menu. Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 19:09, 5 April 2013 (EDT)
Also the 3DS doesn't have it, so if they continue to sit on their "game should be on both systems" fallacy they'll be even less similar. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Breegull 19:11, 5 April 2013 (EDT)

I disagree with Toomai's assertion that L3/R3 are pointless buttons (they're easily accessible, and it gives developers and players more control options). However, they're not necessary for Smash. They should just be additional buttons you could use when modifying your control scheme (by default, make L3 jump and R3 smash). Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 11:42, 7 April 2013 (EDT)

The 3DS doesn't have this, and neither does the Wiimote/Nunchuk or Classic Controller. Just make it an extra feature that can be changed in the controls, as Conny and OT said. Scr7Wolfsig.png 09:30, 7 August 2013 (EDT)
