Diddy Kong is a playable character in The Akaneia Build, a mod for Super Smash Bros. Melee. He was added into the mod in its v0.8 release alongside Charizard on December 25th, 2021.

The Akaneia Build repurposes the stock chimpanzee sound effects he used from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Attributes[edit]

Moveset[edit]

Move Name Damage Description
Neutral attack Diddy Kong slaps forward twice, turns around to quickly kick the foe, and proceeds to repeatedly whip them with his tail.
Forward tilt Diddy Kong leans to the side and thrusts both of his arms forward in a double punch. This attack can be angled upwards or downwards.
Up tilt Diddy Kong swats in the air above him with a slap.
Down tilt Diddy Kong claps forward while crouching.
Dash attack Diddy Kong performs a cartwheel from Donkey Kong Country.
Forward smash Diddy Kong spins and punches forward, followed by a second punch.
Up smash Diddy Kong hops a little and does a sort of cartwheel, hitting three times with extremely low knockback.
Down smash Diddy Kong performs a sweeping kick.
Neutral aerial Diddy Kong does an aerial cartwheel similar to his dash attack.
Forward aerial Diddy Kong kicks both feet forward while spinning.
Back aerial Diddy Kong thrusts his leg backward and spins it behind him.
Up aerial Diddy Kong does an overhead flip kick.
Down aerial Diddy Kong swings both arms downward in a double axe-handle punch.
Grab
Pummel Diddy Kong headbutts his target, angled from the side of his body.
Forward throw Diddy Kong tosses his opponent forwards. The throw is based on Diddy Kong's barrel toss animation from Donkey Kong Country.
Back throw Diddy Kong tosses his opponent backward, very similar to his f-throw in that it is useful for getting opponents offstage.
Up throw Diddy Kong throws his opponent up and handstand kicks them.
Down throw Diddy Kong performs a leapfrog-like manoeuvre and throws the opponent underneath him.
Floor attack (front) Diddy Kong gets up and slaps both sides.
Floor attack (back) Diddy Kong gets up and kicks both sides.
Edge attack (fast) Diddy Kong quickly gets up and does a spinning tail slap.
Edge attack (slow) Diddy Kong slowly gets up and sticks his left foot out.
Neutral special Peanut Popgun Diddy Kong pulls out his peanut popgun and fires a peanut. Can be charged, but if charged for too long the popgun will explode, and will stun Diddy Kong for a second.
Side special Monkey Flip Diddy Kong performs a sideways hop that has the potential to launch Diddy onto an opponent's face if timed correctly. Can perform a flying kick with another button press. Can also be used to gain some extra recovery distance.
Up special Rocketbarrel Boost Diddy Kong charges his rocketbarrels from Donkey Kong 64 in a powerful attack. Can potentially fly very far and very fast, but hitting a surface will make Diddy Kong lose his rocketbarrels and will fall helplessly. Diddy Kong will take 5% damage for hitting a surface.
Down special Banana Peel Diddy Kong tosses a Banana Peel into the air to have it fall onto the ground. Opponents who touch the peel will slip and trip.

Stats[edit]

Taunt[edit]

  • Throws his hat into the air, which lands on his head. This is a reference to his victory animation from Donkey Kong Country after he defeats a boss or wins in a Bonus Level.

Idle poses[edit]

  • Jumps in place.
  • Scratches his rump and shakes his fur.

Victory poses[edit]

A flourish originating from Donkey Kong Country that played whenever a Kong defeated a boss or completed a bonus level.
  • Shoots the air with his Peanut Popguns, rolls towards the camera, and shoots at the camera.
  • Spins with his Rocket Barrels, then faces the screen with his hands on his head.
  • Does a small dance, then holds still in a breakdance-like pose.

Trophies[edit]

Like Wolf, Charizard, Lucas, and Sonic, Diddy Kong's trophies are automatically obtained upon downloading v0.9 and onwards.

Classic Mode trophy
Diddy Kong
Diddy Kong is without a doubt Donkey Kong's greatest friend. Once a hero-in-training, Diddy helped save Donkey Kong Island and later rescued Donkey Kong himself. He has a cool style all his own, featuring his trusty jetpack and Peanut Popgun. Of all Nintendo's heroes, no red cap is quite as iconic as Diddy Kong's. Small but spirited, he is a legend in his own right.

Diddy Kong SMASH
Diddy's Monkey Flip allows him to maneuver around the stage with ease. Landing on an opponent will trap them in Diddy's grasp, or you may press the B button again for a flying kick! Charge Diddy's Peanut Popgun for more range, but if it charges for too long, it will blow up in his face! Timing is key with this powerful move.

All-Star Mode SMASH trophy
Diddy Kong SMASH
Diddy may be light on his feet, but he knows others can be just as agile. Tossing a banana peel on the ground can give anyone the slip—and give Diddy the advantage. The Rocketbarrel Pack will help Diddy's ascent. Charge it all the way for a stronger launch and more distance, taking his recovery to new heights.

Trivia[edit]

  • Since Melee lacked the slip effect, The Akaneia Build had to add its own slip effect to accommodate for Diddy Kong's Banana Peel.
