Coverage of the Masterpieces in the Super Smash Bros. series. Dedicated coverage is on other wikis, but these are here to help readers. They could also inspire some of the origin sections if need be.

Coin (Mario)[edit]

Coins are recurring items in the Mario franchise. They are the currency of the Mushroom Kingdom, recognized for their yellow color, oval shape, and oblong rectangular imprint on the front and back. Coins make an iconic sound when collected, which has alternated between the mainline Super Mario games.

In Masterpieces[edit]

Wrecking Crew[edit]

In Wrecking Crew, during a Bonus Stage, the goal is for Mario to find the coin before time runs out. In two-player mode, Mario must compete against Foreman Spike to find the coin first.

Super Mario Bros.[edit]

In Super Mario Bros., coins are scattered throughout every level, and Mario or Luigi can collect 100 of them for an extra life. They are animated to transition between yellow and brown frames repeatedly.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels[edit]

Coins retain their role in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

In the American Super Mario Bros. 2, Coins serve an entirely different purpose, being for playing a slot machine mini-game after completing a level. They are found only by plucking grass patches in Subspace. They have a much different circular, brown design and are not the same as the Coins of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Super Mario World[edit]

In Super Mario World, Coins retain their role from Super Mario Bros. and, more directly, Super Mario Bros. 3, where their role was changed to match their appearance in Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Super Mario Kart[edit]

In Super Mario Kart, Coins are scattered across the race courses and within certain ? Panels, the latter containing two coins. When collected, they increase a racer's top speed.
